Will most of Nikon's lenses even make full use of the D800's 36MP capability?

Will be eager to hear from your test in due course. I, too, have a couple of AF-D and AI/AIS lenses :)

Apologies to all if my language sounded crude... so i'd rephrase;

In my opinion, the older prime lenses such as 85mm f1.4D, 50mm f1.4D may not be as sharp as expected wide open...

Corners of 17-35mm f2.8D & 70-200mm f2.8 VR I may disappoint...
85 f1.4D & 50 f1.4D struggles to resolve properly for a 12 mpx crop camera in my standards which may not reflect that of the general crowd... :)

......looks like you have set very high standards for Nikon and their D800 to meet .................. many of us are using the D type lenses and will die c*ck-standing if your prophecy comes true ................. sh*t!!! ............ :(

Anyhow, lenses will just be lenses ...... why should a lens made 20 years ago perform inferior to newer lenses? Nikon have their QC in place and glass will still be glass as long as it is glass ........
