Been to KL last week and walked around the shopping centres around Mid-Valley. Checked every camera shops I saw and the prices not cheaper than sg. And most of the Canon L lenses are more expensive than sg prices.

As with shopping in Singapore, you need to go to the right shops to get the right pricing. In general Malaysia is cheaper than Singapore for photographic equipment - but this depends on the product. Usually, DSLR cameras, lenses and flashes are cheaper in Malaysia from what I have seen. But for other photographic accessories (like filters, adapters, other camera accessories), Singapore is usually cheaper (and easier to find less common accessories in Singapore than Malaysia).

Hi, how can I determine the camera is not grey set? Is it through its warranty card? By the way, is there anyway that i can check if the camera has been used or not in term of how many photos has been taken?

Thx

Normally grey set are not local set and without Canon warranty. Warranty is only given by the shop owner, just like PI cars. By looking at the warranty, you should be able to tell. Hmm how to check how many photo taken? ... i am not very sure about that (maybe shutter count??) the best way to avoid is go to reputable shop that is recomended by others.

In fact if the price is not much cheaper... why take the risk? buy it from reputable Sg shop like MS Color, John, or you have even try out bro here, The Oracle.

I understand that malaysia impose a rather high tax on electronics and low tax on liquor and cigarettes. Great insight to know that photo equipment are not tax heavily.

but form personal experience, i have been going KL, JB very often since the 90s....

had NEVER find equipment that sells cheaper than singapore. especially new.

but have bought some 2nd stuff at some very very old camera shop at thrown away prices. but not often. (once got a minolta spot meter for RM200). older photographers out there would know how much it cost in singapore back then.

no into hifi, found the same trend. prices there are about 20% higher than here.

Maybe you went to the wrong places? When the D300 was first released, Iwas quoted equivalent of $2570 at a shop in KL(mid-valley area). Recently got a 24-70mm 2.8 for equi $2360 at a shop in JB. Got my 50mm 1.8 for about $145! The prices for the D300 and MB-D10 are also cheaper in JB now - $2430 and $305 respectively.

Like in Singapore, you must go to the right places. Warranties for lenses are international and covered in Singapore. Bodies, I do not think so. That's why I did not get the body in KL.

Cheers

Could someone please recommend some shops in JB area? I am looking for a D700 but KL is a bit far to go lah.

How’s the price of D700 in Malaysia lei?

Just got my Canon 580EX MKII Speedlite over the weekend from a Camera Fair in JB's City Square Shopping Mall Lobby organise by Cam World, a reputed shop from KL, with several branches all around Malaysia. :D

Price for the set, RM$1550 nett with Credit Card payment. :what: If by cash, can go down to RM$1500, :o unfortunately, I did not bring enough cash or else could save even more so have to settle with using Visa but still it's about S$660 and it comes with International as well as local warranties, of course. What a great deal.

Do u know when is this fair over lei? I will be in 2 weeks time, might be over already lah :(

just check the serial number on the camera and compare with the warranty card.that is one of the method to determine either yur amera has been used yet or not :)

my friend got his Nikon D90 at RM3,000 about a month ago in KL. And I suppose it comes with SD and other stuff as well...

Crazy surfer, U the MAN. tks for sharing. Spore government needs to learn from Msia. Everything P.A.P (Pay and Pay, erP, gsT, coE), until the spore citizens SUCKED DRY. Considering retiring in Msia or Indonesia, at least still can live a decent lifestyle and still can PLAY. In singapore only can PAY.:nono:

You know, the funny thing is I read the exact opposite sentiment about photographic equipment prices between Malaysia and Singapore on a Malaysian Photo forum just now. They were complaining prices and altitude of KL shopkeepers etc were poor compared with S'pore. No body owes you a living, just like no body asked you to buy that camera.

Hi all

Any shops is JB area where i can buy DSLR body !!
On many forums, i have seen much lower prices in ML
