Wifi experts! - portable wireless router

I am currently using a portable wireless router (see ebay link below) for travel use so that when I am at hotels, I can easily make cable lan points into a wireless network to use my Iphone and laptop together. This router is supposed to be using the latest IEEE 802.11n (Draft 2.0) standard, however I feel that the speed is slower then my old home linksy router which i think is the one below, just with a single antenna, using the old IEEE 802.11g standard which is supposed to be slower.

Just wondering what I may have done wrongly to my new wifi router using the supposedly newer n faster standard to have made it slower the my current router in the room..

any wifi expert can guide me towards some recommended settings?

Try to a peer-to-peer access between 2 laptop. Maybe do a file sharing or file transfer, if the speed is good, then problem would be the internet bandwidth from the hotel.

If the speed is poor, then it would be some issue with the wireless router. However, this is quite unlikely, since most should work just fine in their default mode. Wifi is pretty standard these days...

Did you enable encryption in with your wifi connection? If you don't, someone maybe using your router and share the bandwidth without you knowing. This would impact the performance.

Yes I have enable encryption and a password in order to login to the network. I was doing some
Testing in my room swigging between the 2 diff routers n noticed the speed differences

you might want to try Apple AirPort Express if you can't configure your unit.

How did you notice? You run speedtest?

hmmm not so scientific ha...i just switched the connection between the 2 routers in my home and tested general usage. every website seemed loaded longer on my maxonline using the new router compared to the old one, and i was in the room, so it was close proximity and no walls between me and either routers....

unless i chose a different encryption on the new router vs old router, will that affect the internet speed?

talking about that, you might want to configure different frequencies for both wireless AP.
