I am looking for a wide converter for canon HF200, is the canon WD H37 II any good? The guy at Alan Photo recommended vitacon 0.45x, but I am not sure about this brand. Would appreciate some recommendations from you guys.

Nobody uses wide converter here?

Personally for me, I use a 0.3 wide angle converter for my HF10. 0.45 is just not enough for me. Whats more, 0.3 create a little fish eye effect. Try Raynox converter. Quality is very good. You can check out Mcgill on the mass sales section. Not that expensive.

I checked his website, his 0.66 + the adapter cost more than canon's 0.7, and it is only a bit wider. I don't see any 0.3 on his website.

You can test the Raynox converter before committing to buy. For any converter, I suggest you check out the following possible problem areas:

1. Edge to edge sharpness at wide end. Some converters have a soft band at the edges.

2. Chromatic aberration. When you shoot certain features with sharp edges, you sometimes see blue or red fringes instead of clean lines. This happens especially when shooting wide and with the iris open. One of my Raynox converters is terrible for this.

3. Image goes soft or even loses focus when you zoom in.

If you can shoot some test footage and show it on a decent sized screen you will be able to make a good judgement on the image quality.

HF200 also doesn't have internal memory. I bought it for $1225 from CSC after trading in my spoilt A610. RRP then was $1599, now is $1399, so should be $1000+ if you got something to trade in. Low light performance is not good, I actually prefer Panasonic. The only reason I bought it is because canon has a underwater casing for it. If not, I would have chosen Panasonic.

what model of panasonic will you buy? How is HSF100?
Also, where CSC?

choosing a adapter is like looking for sharp copies of camera lenses.

adapter is useful if need to get close to subject and yet have a very wide field of vision.

Unless you know what you are doing and are buying for the right reasons, i recommend skipping this.
