Hi hankwang , if you want an FX lens at a budget, u can look at the Sigma 12-24mm.

Do not expect it to be any near the Nikon 14-24mm.
But well not sure how well it performs for pixel peepers :bsmilie:

Ryan

You very poisonous...

:bsmilie:

looking at the 17-35 2.8

What will be your budget?

how much is the sigma 12-24?

hi last check is about 2600+++

thanks!

that's quite a ridiculous pricing! in SG?

list price at US$700 on adorama. i'll get it from there in a pinch, any day, if $2600 is the standard local pricing.

The Sigma 12-24mm is about $1k-$1.1k for the Canon version, don't expect it to be that level for the Nikon one.

For FF cameras, there really is nothing like it in terms of width, used appropriately, it can produce really stunning perspectives when it comes to landscape!

hmm.. u mean, lower or higher? i think the price shd not be too far off for nikon mount, right?

i'd use it on film, or full-frame digital if i go that route. but i shoot some film now, so i could use it anyway. currently my widest for film is 15mm only. 12mm will be quite a significant upgrade :)

not sure if there are any full frame wide lenses below 1k. but u can get a tokina 11-16 and slap it on ur d700.

Just a quick point to note, the Tokina 11-16 is not meant to be used on Full Frame cameras like the D700. If I may quote from the 11-16 literature;

"* The lens is designed for Digital cameras with APS-C sized CMOS and CCD sensors, not designed for cameras with Full Frame sensors."

So might as well scratch the Tokina off your list. I have the lens btw and use it on a D90.

Saimee

try the Nikon 20-35D 2.8 on the resale mkt...around $800, older bro of 17-35 2.8.....a good compromise. BTW I also managed to get a Sigma 14 2.8 for 750 recently from the resale mkt...may not be as sharp as 14-24, but a nice fun lens with decent IQ.

Tsk! Tsk! To Bro boyboy & wildstallion, dun you guys read posts? My guess is TS is replying to Bro jnet

If the Sig 12-24 is $2600, I'd not even bother ... it's a no brainer, just go for 14-24 :bsmilie:

You can get a 14-24 for that, so im sure that price is wrong
He should be referring to the Nikon 14-24mm or 17-35mm. The Sigma 12-24mm should only be around $1k+.

i do, but when a reply comes after my post, with no quote, should i ASSUME? like you did? :nono:

i am not as knowledgeable about prices as some other pple here, that i admit.

14-24 is great, but the fact is that it's not as wide as the sigma. though if they cost abt the same, no need to ask what i'd get ;p

i have this lens too, i use it on a D300 and 35mm film (<<that's full frame, btw, never mind what the manual says). i still think it's a good stop gap measure, if you need F2.8 and no wider than 15mm. it's the cheapest option and the IQ is excellent.

stepping up in price, one can get the sigma 12-24. that goes wider, but IQ uncertain, and aperture not so big.

abit more, sigma 14mm F2.8. abt 1.5k i think..

the nikon wides will be much more ex although they are probably the choice for those with the cash.

now i know.

i thought it's common sense to not quote if replying to the last post, and to quote if replying to earlier reply. makes for less confusion, while minimising clutter. maybe i should just quote whoever i'm replying to ;p

funny nobody included the tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4, very sharp lens and cheap. I have it and still use it though i have a 14-24mm.:) you will be amazed how sharp it is wide open...
