Need to get some opinions from the expert here, which lens should be i get between the 2 for the M9? Both are about the same costs.
Can someone comments on the pro and con of each lens? or am I looking at the wrong lens?

1. Summilux-M 24mm f2.8?asph

or

2. Elmarit-M 28mm f2 asph

General photography, travel, landscape, people
The second lens should be the 50mm f2.

Do you mean Elmarit24mmf2.8Asph & Summicron28mmf2.0Asph?
Actually a lot depends on you. If for general photography & 2 lenses set up & you mentioned 50mm as your second lens, I'll go with 28mm. 28mm has one stop advantage.
However, the 24mm is very nice for landscape(travel) & when the space is tight.
For 3 lenses set up, I'll go 24mm, 35mm, 50mm. A lot of people like 35mm on Full frame.
If you want to have a feel of the two lenses, you can pm me.:)

My advice, for general photography as what you have stated TRAVEL, LANDSCAPE, PEOPLE...I will recommend 35mm focal length instead of 24mm or 28mm...:)

28mm is the widest you can have, and yet still have decent control over perspective. 24mm is a weird focal length.

28/50 is a good combo, but a 35/90 would be much more capable for general stuff.

If you're afraid of getting up quite close, I'd reckon the 35 or 50 as your "widest end".

I love my 24mm, it is neither here nor there but It suits me.

With the wider lenses like the 21 and 24mm you may need an addon viewfinder to help frame your shots.

You see what I mean? Most like the 35mm, except for zixaw.
Ultrawide if handled well can give nice result. Perspective control is not too difficult with 24mm.
I think the full VF view of M9 is close to a 24mm coverage; may not need external VF.
It actually depends on you.:)

Only used the Canon 1D system and first foray into RF.
For Canon, my most used lens tends to be the 16-35mm and the 85mm.

So i probably should aim for: 24/35/50/90 in the long term.

just not too sure whether the 4mm is more crucial or the 1 stop?

I prefer 50mm over 35mm if I had to pick one.

You are right, I don't use the add on VF but there is an element of guessing. It is not a big issue, normally I end up with more rather than less and it is easily fixable.

That was how I wanted to go originally. There is always the Summilux24f1.4Asph.
I've got 2 Elmarit24mmAsph, can always let you have one.:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Recently purchased the 24mm Elmar. Framing is easy with the full viewfinder but for critical composition you will probably better off with extrenal viewfinder. Had to shoot a couple of times to get it right. Lens is very sharp though and light.

To me the 4mm is not crucial but the 1 stop is..

I uses to think of the same set up 24/35/50/90

But finally ended up with just 35 and 50

I dropped the 90 cause It was providing very difficult for me to focus in the "dark" .. So for shots that require to have long lenses .. I will fall back to my dslr .. In my case D3 with 70-200

I used to have the elmarit 21 ..great lens but without a external VF.. Composition can be a pain.. Even so ... The 21mm Lux is still so tempting

35 lux is a very handy lens when you find yourself in a tighter spot .. You be surprise how well the 35 can handle itself

But basically I am still a 50 shooter .. Got only 1 35 the rests are 50s .. Gone are the wider angles and tele ..

Just my 2 cents
Cheers

Been on travels & 50s stay in the hotel.

35mm if my weapon of choice when overseas. Wide enough to cover tight spaces, people, some landscape

how come everyone's comments make sense
that means I shouldn't rush into it

Lenses is a very subjective thing:p Everyone will have their own opinions and what works for one may not work for another. If you have the chance, try out the lens before buying, shoot with it for awhile and you will find what works for you.

For me, it is a 24mm, 50mm and a 90mm in my travel kit.

Also, I like fast lenses so the extra stop is more important to me than the difference of a few mm.

EDITED.

I have been thinking, one of the reasons why I favor the 24mm right now is because it is my newest lens and I am having alot of fun taking pictures with it. Like the saying Chinese saying goes, "new toilet smells better". Ask me again in a few months and my answer maybe different.

Slight OT, anyone know where I can get series 7 filters for my 24mm? It is not a screw on but held on by the hood. Does not have to be Leica since I am not sure if they make it anymore. Trying to avoid another fire cracker incident.

Lol, they are great, I get most of my new stuff from them.

Focal length depends alot on individual preference. It affects your composition, positioning and perspective.

Everybody will give advice differently based on individual preferences. You need to judge yourself based on your day to day shooting whether you prefer 24mm or 28mm. The 4mm is not a big difference, but it might determine whether you need to use an external VF (cost addition).

IMHO, if your main lens is 35mm, I think you should get 24mm because the 28mm is very close to the 35mm. In fact, unless you can identify specifically what you need the 24mm for, I'd recommend you stick with your 35mm because the 35mm is a very flexible lens by itself. It is very capable of covering 28mm if you step backwards 2 more steps.

Always ask yourself: Do I really need to blow more $$$, or can I take 2 steps backwards? Any shoots you doing that do not have room to step backwards?

Personally, I would not consider 24mm or 28mm. If I wish for a wide angle, I would go for 21mm lux. For spaces in between, I will use my legs.

If you only need "general photography, landscape, people", I'd say 50mm is good enough. Otherwise, you can try 35mm. If you have not already tried 50mm and 35mm, be advised to try these 2 FLs before you plunge into buying more lenses.
