Why Singaporean drivers don't signal?

I think TS have ans his/her own question. Why singaporean don signal. Simply be cos the test is so stupid and difficult, it makes ppl who passed it (like me) think that we are so smart and good in driving. And now we think that singnalling a useless process :lovegrin: mayb the govt shld make it easier so every will be more wary of other driver and start signalling. Thats my share

Instructor: Let's check your signal light before driving off. Push down this lever and look out the window to see if it work.
Student: Yes, it works. No, it went off. Yes, it light up again. No, it's off again. Yes, no, yes, no . . .

The rest is history. That's why those Singapore moronic drivers (I didn't say Singaporean, not all, at least I do signal) don't signal.

during my time taking driving lessons and test, to give signal has to use right hand... so I always do that after I passed.

but nowadays by the time I opened the window, I have already finish the turn.... so don't need give signal liao lor.. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

sure not? i felt only the bus drivers bother to signal , most others don;t bother.
you are lucky if they dont force you to slow down when they overtake you!

having been in the UK for few months, i've also noticed a difference in the way the high beam headlight is used..

In the UK, if I were to want to make a right turn, and an incoming car (from opposite direction) high beams me, it's a signal that the incoming car is slowing down and allowing me to proceed first.

In SGP, if an incoming car highbeams me, it means "COMIN' THRU, GET OUTTA MY WAY"

I know in Indonesia when driving at highway (2 directions, no separator - overtaking means using road of the opposite direction), if you are about to overtake lorry, and the driver signal right turn, they are informing you that there is oncoming car and dont overtake unless you wana die (cos normally they drive in a convoy of 3 lorries so you cant really overtake them unless the is nobody at the opposite side of the road)

somehow, the older generation has the mentality that signalling means you are ametuer.
I think they should think in a way where signalling is for our own safety rather than asking others to give way.

But then, in Singapore, when you signal, alot will step on the accelerator instead of giving way, maybe thats another reason why signalling may means its harder to change lane too.

Singaporean drivers dont signal bcoz:
1) they are driving an F1 car
2) all along they've been driving asian cars & juz bought a continental car...they signalled but the started the wiper instead...:sweat:
3) signal bulb blown
4) signal faulty...

Coming here, I notice that the tests to get driving license are very complicated and difficult in comparison there.
However, the quality of drivers that these tests produced is worse.

For example,
80-90% of drivers on the road do not signal when they want to
a. change lanes
b. turn
c. make a temporary stop to pick up cellphone

Why do you think this is? Maybe there is a cultural difference that I am not aware.

One should away practiced to single after u have changes lane because to do so before means the mustard driver behind u will not let u in.

the worst will be driver who drive on fast lane (right most), never signal then turn left, just near the junction. I mean... even if the road is empty, it is common sense to filter to the left if want to turn left, then slow down and then turn.
