Why DSLR are expensive? I think there are the most expensive gadget nowadays...

They are not make of diamonds or precious stones... I wonder what makes them so expensive???

a 5DMKII can buy 5 iphones 4, 7 Xbox etc... haven mention about the 1DMKIV..

Of course, if you look at the top end of the range it is very expensive.

Entry level DSLR cost as little as $650 with kit lens (K-x). Or less, I haven't been checking prices.

1 iPhone 4 should be able to buy 1.5 of such DSLR at least.

DSLR a gadget? Maybe for some guys (with cameras)... but at first they are optical instruments to capture images. Requires a bit more efforts and precision than for the average iPhone with a life span of 2 years.. (is it that much?)

It is expensive because of the research and development of the sensor primarily.

Lens is expensive because of the desired properties of optical glass required to correct aberration, as well as research and development too.

anyway if it is expensive.... why are kids or teenagers hanging these DSLRs on their neck walking down orchard acting like pros?

u also never factor in the cost of designing, developing new technology, materials used, cost of manpower etc.

try open up a DSLR, inside is not just wires, chips and PCB, there are many mechanical and optical thingy in it, a few thousand parts and rather complex. this is those you can see, those you can't see is many years of R&D spend on it.

DSLR is not expenisve any more. Nowsaday more more affordable models have been launch. Those who find the DSLR is for Pro.... not really now. Try it, you can see the different between the PnS
