Why do you shoot nikon?

Anyone who started with Nikon should continue buiding their skill based on Nikon system...
Anyone who started with Canon should continue building their skill based on Canon system...
Anyone who started with Olympus should continue building their skill based on Olympus system...

If you started with Canon with a T90 you might sing a different tune...

Say bye bye to all your FD lenses and hello EF lenses...

Sorry no resale value cos they were just obseleted... Err, FD lenses can't mount on Canon EOS cameras... Ditto Minolta MD lenses on Minolta AF...

Not sure if Oly OM lenses will mount on E DSLR...

But my 1960 Nippon Kogaku Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4 will fit my 2008 D60, and my second Nikkor bought in 1985, the AiS 105mm f/2.5 will work wonders with my D300.

When I considered my first SLR back then, I could have gone to a number of more-or-less equivalents: Minolta XD-7, X-700, Canon A-1, T-90, Olympus OM-2n, OM-4Ti, Nikon FA, FE2, FG, F3. I am so glad I went with my Nikon FE2.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I used to own a Canon SLR. When the technology went to Nikon, I held the D70 in my hands and man..... Love at first touch. It just feels right (Ergo) and the shutter sound inspires more confidence (Agree with Zhaowei!!! I am not alone !) than the Canon counterpart I was comparing with. Cost me $2.4K then for the D70 kit..... but I still have it today and it still works GREAT!

Having said that, I also own a Canon A720IS with an underwater case. The Nikon pns not that great though and I still prefer Canon compacts.... For DSLR, Nikon.

How come no one compares with Sony Alpha series ah ? :dunno:

Back then, my first SLR camera was a Nikon EM+50mmf1.4...more than 25 yrs ago..back then, Minolta X300 & Olympus OM10 was like a "wow" camera... the Nikon EM was a affordable entry level SLR I could afford and I got a good deal from a 2nd hand shop in peninsula .

When I stare into the 50mmf1.4 optic.. I was like :bigeyes: hehhehe... fell in love with nikon right away. Went on to get the FE2 & F501..... then when Canon was leading with Lens with ultra fast built in motor of the EOS XX (cannot rememeber model number liao..at least 15 years ago)... I bought a canon body to try out... sold the canon in 1 mths. Felt very plasticy.. not much difference from the current 400D & 40D (not flaming hor:nono.

I think is the feel of the solid build and grip of the nikon that bought me over completely, it in-stilled confidence in me, I felt accomplished even before I started any photo assignment...lol:bsmilie:

one difference in me i notice after switching, i no longer concern about red rubber bands and eye catchy white (ego factor), as nikon lens looks all the same to me, so now i can focus more on what i see through the view finder.

not to mention, i learn to appreciate the old ais lens, never know they were that good until i try one.

I am a Nikon user. It does not mean that I choose to be a Nikon user. It was only because my First SLR was a Nikon one. If say I started with Canon, I would be a Canon user now...

Judging from the other posts, I might not be too sure of that... Like you, I started with Nikon and sticking with it. If I had started with Canon, I think I might have jumped ship already.

You forget Nikon has Trinity and not trinity lens :lovegrin: Some people like me swear by it but cannot affort :lovegrin:

i started photography in 2000 using Nikon's FM10.
i felt more comfortable with the brand since then.
so when the dslr's came, i naturally went for Nikon as well.
now i'm using a d40x and loving it.

because i learnt how to use DSLR on a nikon, and used it for my school module. after one semester, was pretty much sold!

had i learnt on a canon, maybe i'd have bought canon instead. but i handled a canon 5d and found the body plasticky, and controls not as intuitive. for DSLR idiot like i was then, i took the D70s and was able to shoot away immediately.

image quality is actually secondary (as long as there is a basic standard of image quality), unless one is shooting exclusively commissioned or studio pieces. for weddings, i see nikons and canons and thus, i figure that these two (and the other brands as well) can do the job equally well. it boils down to what the photographer prefers to use.

Yeah, i been playing around with my dad's manual lens, series E 50mm and a nikkor 35-70mm. Amazing sharp lens:bigeyes:
Theres a certain charm that still hasn't fad away. I got them polished up with autosol;p

totally agree becos I just did that...no turning back once I switch...the CLS system makes shooting so much simpler and straight forward to get the lighting setup I want...:thumbsup:
