Why do you shoot nikon?

I pick up my first Nikon camera many years back, that was a Nikon FM, is just a simple manual camera, no bells and whistles, nothing fancy, but it is so reliable that even professional also love to use them.

and I so glad that they still continue to make cameras and lenses for professional.

because kimura takuya was endorsing nikon when i was considering buying a dslr... haha.

but more seriously, i like the ergonomics of nikons much better than the rest of the brands. and the sound of the shutter is somehow better too.

came from the other camp, then i went for FM2 with a 50mm 1.4 and got my fingers etched with "NIKON"s all over. since then i stayed with this F-mount systems. i can only hold F-mounted cameras.......

Coz the first 3 wedding photographers (with combined experience of more than 40 years!) I learn(still learning from them) use Nikon. hehe.. The 4th guy I learning from now is using Canon but Nikon flash.

When I bought my first DSLR few years back... It was a selection between Nikon D50 and Canon 350D... Tried out each camera at various shops a couple of times... After much consideration, I go ahead with Nikon due to the build and feel... Especially when I hold two camera bodies with my hands, 350D just doesn't feel fit in...

Also, at that point of time, I was looking for a DSLR simple enough for me to use as I am really noob at cameras... And, light enough to carry for holiday trips... Now... Come to think of it... If, Canon 1000D, Olympus E-420 and Nikon D40/D50/D60 was launched at that same time, I really wonder what my decision will be... :think:

I was just thinking about.. Why is it that we shoot nikon?
Was it because nikon has been in this industry for a longer time? Good optics? or what?
It just seems like other brands are much more affordable in the long run with cheaper lens and such. The AF-S lens are seemingly more expensive
I've been using my dad's old f lens on my d40x and i love them.

So why is it that you shoot nikon?;p

Great optics, intuitive controls, the focusing, zoom and aperture ring turn in a direction which I am able to intuitively get used to. It's made the right way. Body handling is good, shutter sounds nice.

Although my first slr camera paid by my dad was a Olympus OM10, I soon bought my first nikon slr f55 with my own money. Followed by D70, D2H, D80 D2X....D3 I have been with Nikon since then, there may be some sentimental consideration besides the obvious excellent IQ nikon lenses and robustness of nikon cameras

Thats my opinion.

hahaha the last few posts are getting into very risky territory....

Anyway, to get back to the point that the TS is asking, I followed the suggestion that most CSers give to newbies: "try the camera at the shops".
I did, and was wholeheartedly sold on the Nikon bodies.
When I got my D80, it was between that and the 400D. In my opinion, it was a landslide victory.
a) no top LCD on the 400D
b) feel of the grip in the hands, and the texture of the materials seemed poor on the 400D
c) poorer menu system on the 400D
d) lack of 2 rotary dials on 400D
e) irritating position of the power switch

So I got the D80 and have had no regrets ever since.
In fact, I popped by Vivocity Canon showroom to check out the latest 50D.
Still a let-down to me in terms of feel of materials, and button placement (power switch is at bottom-right of the LCD screen! Impossible to reach!)
Such things might be considered trivial, but over the many times you use your camera throughout its life, small things can really irritate.

that's just MY personal opinion!

The look and feel of Nikon is simply the distinctive factor. When I hold and grip the Nikon SLR , and compare with the other make, I know the answer on which camera to buy. For those of you who are in dilemma and wondering which camera - try them yourself and go with your feel.

Anyone who started with Nikon should continue buiding their skill based on Nikon system...
Anyone who started with Canon should continue building their skill based on Canon system...
Anyone who started with Olympus should continue building their skill based on Olympus system...

And so on...

I am a Nikon user. It does not mean that I choose to be a Nikon user. It was only because my First SLR was a Nikon one. If say I started with Canon, I would be a Canon user now...

We should understand that brands does not help us in photography skill.

I Think Shooting Nikon Is Because Of Its Grip And It Does Not Mean If I Was A Person Who Creates Cameras And i Actually Created A Camera And It Has Been For Like 80 Years In Business That Means That Alot PPL Will Like Shooting That Brand So I Think Nikon Is Good For Their Grips And Lenses.
