why do you shoot film?

Film is like shooting with a sniper rifle - I shot, 1 kill. Digital is like shooting a machine gun - lots of damage, no finesse. :bsmilie:

Well said lol.

To me, film means alot more than digital. Besides that the designs for DSLRs seem to revolve around a single design. I don't know how to explain it.

Look at all the leica's, yashica's, and stuff like that you'll realise that it's much nicer than those DSLRs.

With that said, i still don't exactly know why i love analogue more than digital.

I'm old school i guess.

i don't exactly like the shape of yashicas, but leicas appeal to me.

i like the quietness of a RF (not all film cams), it's very discreet as well.

i also using film for it's tones, and sometimes, you can't achieve effects from x-pro on ps.

so yeah, just like film.

Well... if you got your own darkroom and scanner. :P

To me, digital makes me shoot like crazy. Multiple takes on one composition is hazardous to training the eye, with quantity... quality tends to suffer.

this as well makes good sense,

in film, i will make sure i capture a shot properly, unlike DSLR, where we can afford to delete them still.

some sort of a one hit one kill logic.

because dark rooms are fun!

no really, i have never had that much fun scurrying around in the dark looking for things, except for a few other situations if you get what i mean ;) haha

i just enjoy the process. from shop to bag to camera to capture imaging to chemicals to drying to scanning.
for me it just so nice to see your shots appear... while drying.
of coz for DSLR u can shoot till u 'shiok'.
thing is DSLR shot one picture like 20-30 times only 1 is nice. the rest you gotta delete.
very time consuming.
yup film= 1 shot to kill. no good means (try harder next time)- this is IPPT fail at the bottom of the slip will show this....
so film has its fun. lighter and easier to carry, not as bulky as DSLR with mutilple lens.
less discreet as many have mentioned.
i tink ah peks and ah ma's dun really bother you if u carry a smaller camera than a DSLR.

Because I have too many in stock. At last count, enough to last me 3 years (enough film to roll myself 300 rolls of 36 frames each)...

got bnw films to spare? lol

dude. how did you even get so many films in the first place? haha. that im interested to know.

processing all those goodies are gonna cost a bomb.

Film is not necessarily a one shot one kill thing. HCB also does multishot.
Digital you tend to take more risk I guess Esp if you zone focus less pain on $$$.
I think twice before i trigger and make sure composition it good. Film add some dicipline.
Film = small size quiet nice resolution.

I think film helps you to really appreciate taking a photograph.
in the modern day of all these new kids going all happy snappy away with their (insert 1000D, D3000, D5000, a230 here), film helps you to take a step back and think twice about what your shooting because you honestly usually only get one shot at nailing the decisive moment.

Why is there a need to explain or justify the medium that you're working with?

Insecurity?

Low-self esteem?

Agreed with aloyyolaaloy, I shoot film because its the 'boomz'.

On a more serious note, its to experience what it's like shooting in the past. No LCD preview and no on board metering. (M2, M4-P, RZ67 here). A switch from digital once in a while can be quite refreshing.

All in all, I enjoy the process of photography, both digital and analog. :)

Cheers!

I think people who look at the LCD after everyshot to check their picture & shoot the same thing again to get a better picture are the ones with insecurity & low self esteem (ok, I am sterotyping:bsmilie:)

I think shooting film is great training. You have to see the shot even before the shutter is fired.

If you miss it? too bad, try again next time & you never know when you can get the moment again.... The feeling of try again next time makes the photographer really improve alot imho, it makes you fully concentrate when shooting, not shoot already than take again, than check, than take again, repeating that process for 4-5times?

Shooting film is good, do it once & do it right, why do multiple takes for one shot?

film trains your "killer" instincts. try bringing out only 1 roll 36 exposures out for your photoshoots.

at first when i tried i tink only less den 5 shots were acceptable.

nowadays shoot 1 roll take me hours!!! take more time to think abt the shot, not nice dun anyhow shoot.

anyway can learn faster using film den digital even thou digital got instant playback. for me i shoot digital damn lazy, shoot auto, not nice den shoot some more, never think abt how come the picture wrong exposure.

i shoot film, knn aft every shot i write down the shutter speed and aperture used + other infos (u wan my excel file chart can send thru email :bsmilie:)

aft develop, 36 frames, seat down in front of lightroom review the pictures, i tell u can learn much more den digital even thou digital got exif data(imagine u got 100+ pics, lazy to check sia!)

my 2 cents

hmm,
i started with a humble fm10 few years back. that time, my dad din even want to buy me the autofocus eos camera for one reason "learn and appreciate the basic".

but it was a very costly start for me, i used up to 4 rolls a day and had to develop it etc (i think 2 weeks rolls = FM10).

but, if i think about it, yeah there's something more about film. i don't know what it is. digital can be a cheap solution for those who want to learn the basic of photography. but, how many of us here use M mode? i bet very very few.

not to be naive, i am using digital more than my film cameras now. one of the reason to use film is more to try out those old cameras and lenses that i have. hahahaha. but if you opt for resolution, film is the way.

Respect... I've never had the patience to do that!
