These people sign up and pay SG$225 for 6 months as subscription fee to the clubsnap admininstrators and post all their gears in a dedicated and sticky tread, some even list the number of studios that they owned. :bsmilie:

Its the same in car forums, whereby folks list down the cars they've owned, and all the mods they've ever done to it.
As in geek forums, where every bit of hardware spec is listed.
To some it's about pride and what they've accomplished 'collecting' over the years, to others it's about having bragging rights.

in CS, there are a lot "crouching tiger, hidden dragon".
sometime the gears we have is only "can beat below but can't compete above".

In another word, it would be great when you can
go beyond yourself by not worrying what equipment
you have.
All you need to do is to grow beyond yourself
instead of your equipment.

I just added mine after seeing this thread, six years after joining this forum! 
Say what you want, but I list them for sentimental value's sake. Yeap, my profile lists more coz I hit the 100-character limit in the signature, and I list them all including my first digital P&S because till today, I have not disposed or sold off any of them...can't bear to part with them leh!

Because it will give other members a bit more info about you and your gear. In other forums like headfi and hi-fi forums where people tend to ask for opinions and info, its useful cos its easier to see his/her gear and then ask them. Some will even list their past equipment/gear.
it will take sometime for people to understand that the are the one who making photographs,
it will take some efforts for people to push themself instead of rely on equipments,
eventually, only few will choose that path.
Photographers who wish to receive this type of education
are rare. However those who know already have made
connections with intentional efforts, sorting out the
rubbish and then later passing the good things on to others.
