I have nothing against ppl who shoot events, as long as they are considerate to other audiences. I happened to be at Raffles City last weekend and watched the Spring in the City show. It was quite frustrating to have your view blocked by a handful of wonderful, 'passion' photographers who stood on ladders to shoot. They were already standing in the very first row! yes, I know they wanted to have a good angle, but can we just be a bit considerate to both the event organizer and the audiences?:thumbsd:

Hahaha, I think you've just said what many of us contemplated, but never talk about it.
My CSer colleague and I alsways muse over these so called 'event' photographer, and wonder if they actually have a life or not. We are also been amazed by their passion, for being able to be in almost every event, everyday! Don't they have something else to do in their lives?
My own conclusion, however biased it may be are that:
1. Alot of them are geeky
2. Socially inept
3. Poorly adjusted
4. Low self esteem
The signs that they show in CS? Well, they are:
1. Go to every event, shoot and post alot of the pics
2. Seems to take only pretty models
3. Seems to change avatar frequently, usually pics of photg taken with the models
4. Call their pics newbie shots, when they probably taken more shots in one event than the average gus like us have taken over a span of a few months.
In conclusion, my own bias view is that, what they do is actually a compensatory behaviour towards their real life, in which they are usually the losers.
For me, as avid or passionate as one may be towards a hobby, I don't think I can afford to spend my entire life doing just that! No need to work meh? No family/wife/GF/BF to take care of meh? No other things to do meh?
And abut fans chasing after idols....do u realise that most of the young girls chasing after those handsome stars have one kind of look too: plump, not so good looking with pimples on their face. I may be generalising, but i think many do get my drift.....
I was just joking with my colleague just now, that these 'event' phtogs seems to have a common name : Tan Chi Hong, Yeo Chi Hong, Lim Chi Hong, Phua Chi Hong, etc, etc.
Paron me if I've offended anybody, I'm just stating my biased views and making a general sweeping statement la, with no specific people in mind....so if u feel offended, u probably fall into the demographics I stated.

guess there're jus too many different areas of interest in photography alone. so long as they enjoyed their photography and no one gets hurt/killed/mauled/bashed/threatened, i guess it's fine. meanwhile, detractors can always laugh/snigger/mock/gossip at the sideline.
otherwise, one can always divert their frustrations and anger at CSers here by engaging in anti-this anti-that talk, posting this vs. that brand talks. so much fun in CS alone!!

And if we suffer in real life, we can always come here in CS and start wackng the hell out of others...;p
Phew, I feel much better now, time to go back to the real world and continue be a loser that I am.
Events are good opportunities to test out my new lens. And explore on different settings under different lighting conditions. Free models lets me explore different poses too. Utimately, my skills and experience improve every week. But I choose events to shoot. Spring in the City is something which I avoid shooting. Btw, I'm a paid event photographer.

The person who thinks like the above is a fool.
A. What's wrong in shooting for free. Do people need to collect $$$ when taking pictures? May be for you, but definately not for me.
B. There're lots of ppl laughing at ppl doing other hobbies as if they're fools too. Why are you so concerned when people are doing things they like.
C. Taking pictures are only my intention. I did not bother to go get their contacts anyway. Its auto most of the time.
D. Try it and you know.
E. I'm not bothered abt whether the organisers want the photos or not. Those are for collection and I'm not even going to sell it even if they want them.
F. That I'm usually not bothered. Those are just target practice usually.
G. So that's what you think.
H. Don't be surprised when those wannabees break your ricebowl later on.

4. Photographers who happen to like to see, to shoot, to exchange contacts, to touch, to be seen, etc with models, celebrities, other photographers, etc....)?
5. Those photographers who juz love to post at forums for those event shoots....
6. Inconsiderate photographers who bring ladders and block everyone behind (what if the photographer happens to be super big-size or super tall, are they in this category:think

Those inconsiderate ones are those who were late for the event and wants to get in front even when there're no ladder users at the event. Its not easy to watch the event even when there're no ladder users at the event sometimes.
Whether there's ladder or not, there'll not be a problem watching the show when a person puts an effort to get there early. Those ladder users will have to be behind you when they can't get there earlier than you. But, unfortunately, they'll usually be really early :devil:.
Latecomers are usually penalised in everything ---> late for school = get detention from principal or punish from teacherl, late for work = dock pay or get the boot, late for event / show = either not gonna get a clear view or miss it entirely ...

what about the general public who is not a avivd shooter...if you are at the Miss Singapore World final...you will see how considerate photographers are...they nv block a single person at all...they always bend down when they walk pass people...

using a ladder is ok..but never ever block people with it..
fashion runway photographers in milan & paris all use ladders...but they never ever block fellow photogs or cameramen or anyone else...if u want to use a ladder..be considerate!

I simply love the way you define it...have yet to research in depth on such behaviour yet...maybe do it for my next project for human behaviour and the action that cause people to behave like this...
i been to an event to shoot as a public with the offical b4...they will very considerate...we each took turns to shoot...everyone became friends that day...

These people are Armchair Eventgelists who don't shoot events but surge CS lusting for photos of half-dressed chicks.
