Why do my pictures *GLOW*?? :(

when you go back to the shop, just be prepare that the shop probably won't let you return the lens and refund you the money.thank u all for the kind replies. yeah i should have done more research before buying. main thing was i saw how my friend used it on her kit lens and thought it was quite cool, and then decided it should work on my 50mm.
btw it was from SLR PRO @ simlim, for $117 ex gst. my god that kinda money spent (esp for student like me). i wanted to come back the next day with my camera but the guy kept saying its okay, sure no problem (etc etc), anyway got receipt and stuff. oh well. I'm hoping to go back tmr and see if he would do an exchange for something of similiar value. I cant bear to sell to any of our clubsnappers for something like that. well but it does give a nice almost fish-eyeish effect when used on my kit lens when zoomed all the way out.
main intention for it was to take theatre shots (cos i realised my 50mm f1.8 was too cropped for taking an entire stage) but i guess since i cant use it at wide apertures, i cant use it for theatre.
sean: sorry to hear that about your lens. but what is the problem? is it a lens defect or what?
well but i just dont understand the physics behind the glowing
The shop will only let you trade for other things if they are kind enough, trade anythings total value higher then the so call wide angle converter.
so you need to prepare to lost some money, take it as a lesson, don't try you luck on buying things from places like this anymore.
do your homework first, and only buy things from reputable stores mention in clubsnap.

Its a canon... i suspect lens defect. Both sigma and canon UWAs costs less than 1k. CSC hasn't gotten back to me yet. Sent in 3rd day after purchase. Should be able to get an exchange if it's really bad.

LOL! Fake expensive u mean.
add on converters does not work on every lens, each glass element in the lens bend and focus the light rays that enter the lens, by introducing another glass that bend light (your converter) you will force your lens to operate with a off set to this focusing range thus when your lens focusing mechanism had been max out the light entering your lens will not be focus properly.
converter arent design to work with all lens, so work ok some dont, in which some how most kit lens and general zoom lens are able to accommodate the additional of converter lens
my own experience, i bought a cheap piece of macro converter lens $10-15 and it work well with my kit lens nikon 18-135, tamrom 17-50 but not my nikon70-300, the effect is some what like your, the edges of my subject is super duper soft and got those glowing feel effect. only way to counter the un-intended effect was to step up my F number to F16-22 to allow the lens to focus the light better.
advise is when u wish to buy converter, bring the lens u intend to use the converter on with you to test it out b4 purchasing

Actually I bought a 0.5X 77mm recently. But total cannot be use on G lens. So I bring it back to change for another one. Now I'm using it on my 50 F1.4 lens. Tested with wide angle and macro but I don have the problem which you are facing. But ofcourse I also don recommend using it for wide angle. Maybe you can try using the convertor for macro purpose.

lesson learnt: NEVER buy anything without camera or lens in hand heh heh..
So i went back to the shop yesterday, made a big fuss out of camera cannot focus etc etc how come all the pictures glowing and all. Most important thing was, actually when i was buying the adapter, I didnt have my camera with me, I wanted to come back the next day but the uncle kept insisting nothing would be wrong etc etc. WOW but the amazing part of the argument was, when another guy from the shop tried to take pictures with my camera, he tried AUTO mode, and realised it could focus properly, and then the whole argument started about if i shot in auto then the adapter would work. I was totally like wtf, who shoots in auto. Even my bf who doesnt know photography was suuuuper angry at this point. Who spends so much on a dslr and uses it like a compact. And anyway, my whole intention of buying the adapter was to use it in dim lighting, at wide apertures, which was the whole problem the adapter was facing, so it was a useless piece of glass to me.
So after much pain, they agreed to change for something for me. I decided to get another 50mm 1.8 (for my friend). But of course i was charged much higher than market price. rawr. Was a tough fight but in the end was so tired so agreed on topping up another $20, resulting in the lens being $145.
I swear I'll never ever go back to the shop again. And here i state again, its called SLR PRO, 1st floor in sim lim square. My friends, beware.

a 50mm f1.8 for $145? that's is not too bad. what brand is that lens? a grey set I guess......
