Going to Tokyo so thinking of gettin the Canon HF 10 only 52500 yen is SIN $735.00

Anyone has experience buying a Canon camcorder in Japan?

What the difference beside warranty, are the menus in English?

Thanks

remember to check for right region,
In Japan, usually they only sell ntsc.
In Singapore, we use pal.
As you might want to take that into consideration before u buy the camera

Will the different pal ntsc system makes a difference in the recording format?

Can we hook it up to our LCD TVs to watch since using HDMI cable?

thanks

Playback should not be a problem. But there is possibility of nasty flickering or pulsing when you shoot anything with lights, cos of the frame rate not matching the lighting power frequency. Once you capture it like that, you are stuck with it.

also check the menu. Some are Japanese language only. Interestingly, some model sold in Japan are not release to the rest of the world. And those model only have japanese menu.

Thanks

Will go and check it out this weekend when i am at Yodabashi or Bic Camera.

Thank you Thank you

I am using a Canon HF100 NTSC version. I see no problem with using the NTSC version on our multi-system LCD/Plasma flat-panel TVs. When you think about it, most of our pre-recorded videos like laserdiscs, DVDs and Blu-Rays are are in NTSC format. We've been using them for years in Singapore. The difference in power frequency may be a valid point for CRT TVs but not for the modern flat-panel TVs that works in 24p, 30p or 60p, depending on the source.

Where do you see it at 52500 yen? The cheapest according to this site is around 76,000 yen.

The big stores' prices usually only apply when you join as a member, which probably does not apply to you if you just travel there.

Anyway i got my model wrong 52500 yen is for FS10.

But still cheaper there than here.

Other wise waste of money

i bought my hf10 from yodobashi in june this year. it's ntsc and i have no problems viewing it on my lcd tv or after conversion to dvd format. only thing is there is no local warranty - for which i saved about S$1,000.

if i recall the hf10 was on "clearance sale", because the hf11 was coming out. back here in singapore, the hf10 was still being touted as a brand new model.

the question is not why camcorders so cheap in Japan, should be rather why CANON CAMCORDERS so expensive in SINGAPORE.

The pricing of canon camcorders is crazy one. I mean 10-20% mark up is ok. But the singapore pricing is like 100% higher.... I got my HF100 from US.

Yup, the way Canon Singapore marks up their HD camcorders is ridiculous. The so-called "free gifts" that are bundled with the camcorders aren't worth the premium you pay. Heck, when I initially went shopping for the HF100, one of the free gifts included in the bundle was a 8GB SDHC card but it was a slow Class 2 card. HF100/HF10/H11 camcorders need at least a Class 4 card or better!

And lets not forget Sony. I remember a few months ago when I visited the Sony center in Wisma Atria, a Asian American lady walked in and saw the prices and was flabbergasted. She told the salesman that she could get Sony products for a lot cheaper in the US.

So much for Singapore being a shopper's paradise.

Read somewhere that PAL version is always more expensive than NTSC. Not sure of the reason thou.

Licensing for the technology and then maybe the standards authority if any that decided SG should be Pal and Japan should be NTSC.

As for the pricing, depends how they calculate the SRP and if it includes anything like local marketing and so on.
Then again one could could get a second hand card for one hundred quid in UK......can i say the same for Singapore?

The PAL HF100 is also cheaper in Australia. Ted's Cameras is selling them for A$1199.95 with an 8GB card.

Thinking of asking a friend to get the Sony SR12 for me via amazon.jp. I am not sure if you can choose PAL/NTSC system on amazon.jp. Does it matter? Also, is it possible to have English menu for the cam?

So there is no issue saving video on DVD from a NTSC videa camera to play on DVD player in Singapore?
