What's worse is that now the shirt of the man who's sitting on the left hand side seems to be in continuity with some of the books (which appear white) that jut out from his shirt. Surely this isn't the case right?

Thirdly, with black and white treatment the sharpness is much easily discernable since there's no distraction of colours. In this case, the sharpness without colours is simply horrible... nothing seems to be in focus, except, well, the shirt of the guy sitting in the center foreground.

So the suggestion is simply, to reinstate the colour... forget about b&w in this case. It doesn't work!
