I see the negative response.. BUT..

It's gonna be my first DSLR, so i'm buying =)

the features looks good for a newbie like me, good deal i guess.

aiyo wad negative response? most of us here already got dslrs...50Ds, 500Ds, 7Ds, and even the pro series cams...so not much of a need to get a DSLR (esp entry lvl 1). i tried the 24-105 with the 500D today...i nearly dropped the camera when i gripped it with one hand. =/ the lens was too heavy and the grip was too small. so i guess i wun be getting this camera.

I had a Canon 400D, sold it for a Olympus EP-1, dun really like it and looking forward to the Canon 550D

why did you sell the 400D? its better!

Had the same feeling with a 17-55 or 70-200 on my 500D. Now i’ve gotten use to not using my right hand to support the weight. My lefthand supports the weight, and is anchored on my chest. My right hand aims and fires. :)

am happy with my 500D, dont see a point of upgrading to 55D.

thats why it considered as entry model... as we move on, our lens got heavier and thus need a heavier body the balance the weight. you can invest on a battery grip as a temp solution

lol. well...when u move up to such lenses, getting the xxxD series for the small size doesn't make sense anymore. maybe i will get the xxxD some other time.

yeah. battery grip may be a good solution.

Call me miserly, i felt i’ve adjusted to the weight so did not yet spend on a battery grip. :P

Concert hasn’t happened yet. Next week. But some issues. *sigh*

thinking to get one as 2nd body before,
but after realizing that it use different remote, battery, and memorycard from my 1st body... then nevermind already :|

550D would be a good 2nd body to bring for travelling IMO.... :)

I owned a 7D. For assignments I think I need a second body that is slighty lighter. Naturally I would chose 550D. It's like a baby 7D albeit a slower burst rate.

Cheers

now i am still confusing about 550D and 50D...

i am waiting for the launch of 550d..we know that 550D is quite small compare to the aluminium body of 50D...

so i am thinking to add on an extra battery grip to enlarge the grip of 550D...

but dunt know whether the feeling is better or worse...

No need to confuse...wait for it to launch next week, go and play with it and you will know better which one to go for...

;)

Hmm dont think so :P Just got my new toy :D

i prefer the 50D with the small display for the ISO and others..

but 550D doesnt get it...and 550D is small...

somemore..50D is quite nice also..

beware of the first batch which usually have some QC issue.

As it has been out for MONTHS elsewhere I'm hoping this will not be an issue. :D

Totally agree with the concept though - "Never buy version one of anything".

That would be me then ( upgrading from Canon-A1 35mm film SLR )

Will be buying at IT show, with Sigma 17-70 OS lens provided budget stretches that far.
