Wow!! Reno77 is leaving Dynax7 and picking up 5D!!! :-)

I thought might as well switch to digital full time. Havent used the Dynax 7 for about 3-4 months. I'll satisfy my film urges with the Seagull and Moskva 5 ;)

Wow.. reno77 some sort of rich guy? How many (D)slr did you exactly have? :bsmilie: ;)

Echoing the early question, where do you guys get the 5D? Me thinking of getting one through the electronics chain store such as Harvey Norman or Best Denki. It is because the chain stores offer upgraded warranty.

Please feel free comment...

some credit cadr give one more year warranty also...

I got my 5D from Alan Photo @ SLS, reason I bought it from there? I bought a few cameras from there before, and it's cheaper to get from there, but buyer will have to know their price right.

Extra warranty is nice, but I assume the value of camera is depeciating quite fast, probably every 3 to 5 years people will change their camera. With the "Buy, Buy, Buy" virus around, it will be even faster.:bsmilie:

extended warrenty is good indication that the owner like to keep it for that long or longer.

Note that upgraded warranty may not come from Minolta but from the electronics store... basically they can't repair the camera for u and if it has to be sent back to the service centre, find out if they would cover the cost... I dun know how much the extended warranty costs but generally it's not worth the money...

yup, unless the warranty is covered by KMSC, gotta ask clearly before going for extended warranty.

Oh man.....

Looks like its gonna be a new era after all......KM has started a new ball game....
Nayway...its great to see the number of KM users increaseing by more awareness of what
a camera as a tool - irregardless of brand.....can provide agreater photography experience...

Now at least if we want to organise some KM based user outing and request to get some loan of equipment from KM themselves....we can justify the number of users here in CS....which is slowly increasing....

The KM section was very different last year with only a handful of ppl.....and now - within a year.....it has turned into an active user knowledge exchange portal......specifically with the effort of ppl like Drudkh who organizes monthly meet-ups without fail and setting good example of being present even on low days......

Great guys...dont waste more time...start sharing your work...!!!and join the outings...

sulhan

Who will loan you the lens...............?

I've emailed to KM regarding the extended warranty issue and looks like they'll only cover 1 year and do not provide extended warranty. So, mega-electronic stores that provides extended warranty could be that, you'll have to send the camera back to them for repairs if any problem arrises and most likely repaired by outsourced repair workshops.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email.

As for the warranty period, all Konica Minolta cameras come with 1 year
international warranty. For purchased made from Singapore, all Konica
Minolta cameras and its accessories comes with a standard 1 year
international warranty. There is no extension of this warranty.

Its basically creating the whole eco-system mah....if KM have many users
obviously they will have newer services in the future that don't even exist now....
Who knows....

Just like the D7D.....who ever thought an AS in camera?.......talk about three years back....ppl will send you to Woodbridge....now.....is a different story....
Lately the services in KM has improved - based on my personal experience - live and on
the phone ....

Its normal......1 year warranty.

Usually the more than 1 year type offered by those big players are outsourced service centres.

I don't think it is true about the outsource repair, it is a deal between you and the insurance company who underwrite the extended warrenty. I've use it on my lousy panasonic pocket camera and I was asked to send back to Panasonic for repair and they foot the bill. Take a look in the Nikon forum a lot of users use this to its maximum.

edited: When I mean a deal, it is when the camera cannot be repaired and you have the right to reject if they send you off to some fly by night shop for the repair. Most of these extended warranty are also link to credit cards, so if that is any assurance.

Caveat Emptor:
Checked with Harvey Norman on this. They tell me what I have to do is to call them to get an authorisation before going to the KM service center and they will liase with KM to take care of the bill. (if you go straight without authorisation, then you have to pay for it). If KM can't repair it they will replace it with a new & similar model.

If you got Harvey Norman card, it is a good deal. They have 5% off the price $1598 and will throw in one more year of free extended warranty if you purchase any extended warranty package. So for 5 year warranty you need to pay either $210 or $250 (didn't confirm with them).

Don't go for Best's. Theirs have a declining value as the years goes by. i.e. 1st yr 100%, 2nd 80%... 5th 20%

So with 5yrs warranty max $1768. Therefore $424 more than other shops. But you can recover it if you have a dead CCD during the 5yrs.

Think I am probably getting my 5D from there.:bsmilie:
