who are divers on CS?

lanxx is suggesting that we open up a new thread when this thread comes to page 50, ask mod to close this thread and link it to the new one. agreeable? we probably dont need a subforum, as we can stick to our close group, and have newcomers streaking in instead of pouring in and flooding us out ... Smaller, less conflicts, easier to arrange seeds, dive trips....
Even have new comers, will be little as we are in a sub-thread and this is not a diving forum. Less obvious from the less observant eye. Dun want it to end up like fins-online forum. Too many conflicts, quarrels.... the shitload.
So when this reachs page 50, we switch to a new thread.(option 1)
Or,
we keep this thread for toking rot(we still need a thread to accomodate sehsuan and such) ;p , then the other for more serious topic, like u/w photography techniques and equipment. (option 2)?

I think new sub forum called the sports photography will be a better idea. The sub forum can split to a lot of different sports photography thread, such as Formula1 Photography, Track and Field Photography, U/W Photography photography and others. Newbies Clubsnappers will be able to pick up which sports photography he/she will like and at the same time we can start to attract people into U/W photography, being highly organised.
We could recommend it to the moderator, since Sports photography is a field by itself.
Option 1 will repeat history itself. For newbies clubsnappers who will like to know what are being said, randomly, will need to search the who forum for old thread. Moreover, if he/she wanted to find only information on .... say techniques, he will have to flip to the old thread of 50 pages and / or new thread .... which may reach 50 pages, judging from the speed the first thread reach 50 pages.
Option 2 will be too fragmented, the whole world got to search the whole kopitiam forum for updates, may it be in equipment / Sighting / pitfalls / techniques / others on U/W photography.

While diving is a sports of it's own, the relative similarity stops after the digital camera, memory card & batteries itself.
The host of supporting equipments - strobe / arms / fiberoptic cables etc etc are different from normal sports photography. Let alone shooting technics, where one's bouyancy skill & diving equipment setup plays a vital part. And that is not camera gears related.
I would deem it as a highly specialized form of nature photography (marine life), rather than sport.
Hence a separate thread would be ideal.

I vote for having a new forum. These days U/W photography is a big thing. Look at olympus and sony. Olympus is especially pushing this sport and people are joining. Nowadays you can't go diving without finding someone with a camera. There are the people to support such a forum, it's just that they haven't heard of us yet. If we had our own forum, we would be able to attract people much better. When we meet divers, we could say "yeah check out the club snap u/w photographers forum" rather than "there's a really long thread in clubsnap that discusses u/w photography".
Having our own U/W forum with more participants and posters would benefit us all, in terms of expertise, advice, news of events, sharing pictures, buying, loaning and selling of equipment, MO's, reviews, etc...
I'm sure that the numbers are there (of u/w photographers), it's just that we are too small to catch anyone's attention and attract members. There are other forums out there that are entirely devoted to U/W photography, like wetpixel. I think that u/w photography merits having at least, its own sub-forum.
I think that especially in S.E.Asia it is becoming a big thing, with our proximity to some of the worlds best dive sites, having such a forum in singapore would be quite good. It has the potential to become something really big. There aren't that many out there, there's the potential "customer" base and a sub-forum could fill that gap. We can ride the wave that companies like olympus and sony are making.

Personally I think a seperate forum will be best, but if we can't get the mods to do that, 2 threads will be acceptable too.
The only reason to stay in this thread is simply to hold the record, I believe we all agree that it is quite difficult to find any useful information within this thread, not because there isn't any, but because there are too much of tok rots intermixed with the technical discussion.

ok, whats the point here? my point (and maybe lanxx's) is to continue in our small group in a convenient way without overweighing on the present thread. we definitely welcome newbies, but not in floods.
looks like most of you are thinking of making UW photography a subject itself to discuss the various things. then we become more diversified, which also means that we wont be as closely knitted. i cant say that now all of us are closely knitted, but at least a few of us are... right? if everything can be discussed on the subforum, then whats the point of having UWCS SEED? thats my point of view la. the official Clubsnap SEED is there becos there are far too many members, and if you ever did go to one, you see so many small little groups talking among themselves, and some lost lambs here and there.... to me, no point lo. like for second SEED, i brought laixi, frisky first time come, the rest of us met already .. more comfy like that, to me.

Yep, please don't end up like fins-online. Loads of crap there. Only a few offer good advice, like David. I seldom check out that forum anymore. It's wetpixel for technical stuff, and here just to find out how everyone is getting on. Would have loved to put a face to all the names.
