Which would make a good and light walk-about lens?

Tootboink, there's infinity focus on the prime. When i'm lazy, i will turn to infinity and use it like a point and shoot. Super sharp too. hahahaha... autofocus is always nice. Manual is a lot more satisfying, especially when focus, exposure, and composition is spot on. At times, it's the focal length at work. Turn your kit lens to 50mm so that everything is equal and you'll find that IQ difference is similar.

Elavan, i already looked like an idiot trying to focus on a bee manually. :bsmilie: I'm going to find a very BIG housefly to win that competition, if there's one. ;p

i agree manual is satisfying.. and a lot of hard work to start with! haha. how come at infinity you can use it as a point and shoot? won't everything need focusing? is it only for scenery and objects outside the focal length?

A UWA would be the Sigma 10-20 or the Pentax 12-24mm (~$950)

Pentax Price list is here
http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=534146

Pentax 12-24 ~$1065

Sigma 10-20mm ~$950

If the lenses are K mount. Just mount to the Pentax camera. No need for adapters.

I wouldn't trust someone who can cut almost 1/2 of the price he quoted at 1st offering ;)

Use infinity when you want to shoot landscape and scenery. Very easy to do, anything beyond a certain focal distance - do not need focusing, ie. use infinity. :bsmilie: So you're right :)

KOBE, Pentax have so many limiteds to drool on, if I could have so much money, I would buy 'em all. but unfortunately I have none. . built quality never been seen for most brands nowadays, That's why I went pentax.

BTW, sigma 10-20 cost around 950. Pentax 12-24 around 1k or more since Pentax lenses price rose these past few months. :)

Why even recommend an ultrawide to a newbie moving up from a point and shoot camera and who hasn't even used a DSLR before?
Budget will always be an issue for a first time user, what more knowing how to use the camera and knowing what it is capable of.

Wow... The lens cost the same as the kx.
It wouldn't be too long before you'll accept the fact that good lenses should alway cost more than the body. Ha.

I could agree here, 18-55 is wide for me already. at wide end it's already 27mm equivalent, almost the same with the 28mm wide pns he's using.:)

Heed the wise man.

I find it equally perplexing why new DSLR users are intent on replacing their kit lens/lenses when they haven't gotten used to them, all because of constant urging from other "photographers" that the kit lens/lenses provide junk output.

At least the advise to get a nifty fifty is a bit sound, since it exposes cheap and fast primes to the user.

My bad...
He asked about wide angle. Maybe he only meant WIDE and not U-WIDE :D

To kob3bryant,
Yeah, 18mm cheap cheap only. $70 can buy from bns here or it comes with the Kx + kit lens for ~$950.

I've just gotten my 1st Pentax prime, the FA35mm F2.0 and I love it!:D

I am sorry if there is any misunderstanding

I asked for the suggestion of UWA lens due to a matter of fact that my current PnS 28mm does not enough for me. As i like to take portrait with landscape kind of photo and some times i cannot fit the whole buidling in if i wan to maintain my target portrait in

Congratulations, I am sure you will definitely like it. It is a good lens, sharp wide open.

Thanks bros! Especially to iFoto, thanks for sending me the link of the guy selling the 35mm F2.0. I contacted him and luckily he have not sold it yet so I got the chance to be the new owner.:) It is really sharp even when wide open.
