now that i realised the aquagraph aaint multicoated.i may have change of plans.

anyhow, thanks for all inputs.
i think 3K+ to me still ok.anything higher, is a bit too much.

prob is, i dont even know if he will wear it since he love his gshock so much.
imagine, u get a watch for him, and he still continues to wear the gshock...
can understand how i feel?:dunno:

My everyday watch is a Gshock too and I have one 'wallet friendly edition' of a Tag when I go for more formal occations :D I'm sure your friend will appreciate a gift like that.

Putting 3k in a gift for a non reciprocal feeling isnt too much ? The time you spend tryign to get opinion and finding the best gift is in my opinion more valuable than the watch itself ...

If budget is 3k you also have the carrera and the link series... nice nice nice (to my liking)

I will go for the aqua racer :)

A TAG Heuer F1 user myself. Have to say it's a tough watch

people,

have read all the tips and comments.i really appreciate it.

yes, i know automatic has more 'value' than batt powered.
but like some of you mentioned, price is definitely higher.
i like breitling.but it easily cost 7k.
for a gift to a guy, i find it a little high.
(not to mention my feelings aint reciprocated:bsmilie: )

i like tag because it's simple, fashionable, and it relates to very sporty people.

watches like frank muller, longines, IWC, IMHO is more suitable for watch collectors.

this friend of mine is a very down to earth and humble person. the current watch he is wearing is a G shock which dates back to 1990s.
therefore, i tot of getting him a dress watch, or something which is more 'formal', yet elegant.
i've seen tay ping hui wearing #1 aquagraph and it amazingly stands out.he really brings the watch image out well.
my friend's built is about the same as ping hui.so i tot it should look as good.

and there's only ONE left at taka branch.and i heard aquagraph is discontinued.
i have to make my decision fast.

It seems like you are going to make a haste decision soon.

Watch is a very personal item; what you like or we like; does not equal to what that guy like.

It is better to drag that lucky guy to a watch shop, and sound him out what particular watches he like, or does he has any watch model he want.

My fren brought me a watch, but sad to say, i did not like it that much and it sit in my cabinet everyday.

Make sure your $3k watch is on his wraist everyday rather than in his cabinet.

actually wanted to buy already.then realised watch not multicoated.so kind of set me back to drawing board.:dunno:  :embrass:

i cant drag him to the watch shop.too obvious.
maybe i should just get the kirium F1.at least the glass is multicoated.

Firstly, how close are you to this guy?
Secondly, if you're very close, you should know what his taste is.
Thirdly, it's ok to just go window shopping with him, and then just let him try many things, not only watches. Can bring him see shoes, ties, clothes etc, throw him off the scent and then see what he likes.
You don't have to buy a watch you know... Some people think it's bad luck to buy watches for people.

ps: taht's usually how i buy gifts for my hubby to surprise him.

Actually, I really fun to bring him window shopping around and to secretly find out/ hind to him. or check it (watch) with him. Ask for his opinion and then u DECIDE later after the whole thing is over.

take a look at Sinn ...simple n clear n technical spec. not many pple will know about the brand...and ya is a tool watch.

hey look at the overall design dun bcos of AR...

why not get a breitling? no need to spend 7k IMHO.

Jeanie's thread always so many responses

Jeanie..

My first watch to my hubby (at that time boyfriend) was a Swatch irony. Cheap but nice. He still has it and wears it even after 9 years.

Swatch irony range is quite nice. The other range which I like are the ones which you can see the movement (I think it's the Diaphne range).

I still think the best thing is just bring him window shopping. Just to share with you the gifts I've bought my hubby over the years:-

ties, cufflinks, shirts, belts, bag, watches, PSP, mont blanc pen, etc.

Well, have fun shopping. It's the weekend soon!
