2nd one..

not all quartz are battery powered.. for example, seiko's kinetic..

2nd 1 better, simple looks & very class... aiya! buy both lol :vhappy:

How many of you guys actually really buy a watch putting into consideration its resale value? :dunno:

Would you really think about resale value when buying a watch for somebody? :dunno: How would you feel if the watch you've given to a special somebody ends up being sold? :dunno:

I've owned several watches (not as pricey as the ones being mentioned here though) but I've never, ever given "resale value" a thought.

:Later,

Resale value...

Unless u r talking about brand name like rolex, patek, VC, Frank Muller and anything above 20K, u r in for a resale value.

If watches like TH (which cost less than a top range Nikkor lens) why talk about resale value. Wear it like we are using our camera... u will b happy. IMHO anything mech for TH is a good buy. Aqua is the word...

U shld try to look at BVLGARY range of watches. Very well design and doestn't look dated for ages. i own a bvlgary bvlgary range for 16 years and the model is still around.

people,

have read all the tips and comments.i really appreciate it.

yes, i know automatic has more 'value' than batt powered.
but like some of you mentioned, price is definitely higher.
i like breitling.but it easily cost 7k.
for a gift to a guy, i find it a little high.
(not to mention my feelings aint reciprocated:bsmilie: )

i like tag because it's simple, fashionable, and it relates to very sporty people.

watches like frank muller, longines, IWC, IMHO is more suitable for watch collectors.

this friend of mine is a very down to earth and humble person. the current watch he is wearing is a G shock which dates back to 1990s.
therefore, i tot of getting him a dress watch, or something which is more 'formal', yet elegant.
i've seen tay ping hui wearing #1 aquagraph and it amazingly stands out.he really brings the watch image out well.
my friend's built is about the same as ping hui.so i tot it should look as good.

and there's only ONE left at taka branch.and i heard aquagraph is discontinued.
i have to make my decision fast.

actually an omega speedmaster looks good on guys... very classic looking yet sporty.

have you considered old watches? some old ones are nice n cheap. you can go to heirloom gallery, they've got a great selection.

omega is a bit too plain imho.and i see more 'cheong' omegas than tag heuers IMHO.:embrass:

old watches as in worn before and being sold as second hand?
no.i wont consider it at all.

Can consider Oris Watches;p

none, both are cheap models on TAG catalog, and they look cheap.

and certainly not formal nor elegant.

Omega has a lot of ranges too... from simple to elegant... and both are good as they are Swiss watch certified... :)

Omega has a very wide range of watches. There are plain ones and there are the pretty sporty looking ones. I think maybe you shld go to the watch shops to take a look at the various brands on sale.

Like I said previously, Tag is a fashion watch, not too great a watch.

I've bought a few vintage Omega ones. You'll be surprised that some of the vintage ones with pretty rare movements actually cost quite a lot and are good investments. But then again, some people may think that becos it's worn, it's not good as a gift. Again, it depends on your personal view.

YOu can consider other brands like Sinn (as someone has suggested), Bell & Ross (especially the BR-01 range) or even something like Oris or Tissot or the latest Planet Ocean from Omega.

Aquaracer is my choice. It's automatic (no need batteries), looks better and of better built

aqua is auto?tot someone said it uses batteries?

i have to admit.as much as i like auto watches, but when u alternate watches to wear, then the next time u pick up the old one and have to adjust it, it can be such a hassle.:embrass:

2nd one..

not all quartz are battery powered.. for example, seiko's kinetic..
Seiko's Kinectic (newer series Auto Relay) is powered by a capacitor (rechargable battery) ...

Charging is initiated from wrist movements that swings the rotor within that converts kinectic energy into DC ..

Its advised by manufacturer the capacitor within has to be changed every 5-8 years .... like most rechargable batteries ... they have memory effect ... where power retention capabilities will fall over time ...

in simple .. its NOT BATTERY-FREE

Do give Thong Sia a call shall u be doubtful to above ... for I'm changing capacitors for my customers almost every week ...

Once again for benefit of thread starter ... I would advise the later for daily using watch ..

if the guy is already wearing a G-shock for so many years. perhaps he is just not a watch person.. maybe he prefers something that can withstand the wear and tear of daily usage. maybe it would make him feel too tacky for wearing an expensive watch. why not sound him out for his taste/opinion? perhaps he is happier if you get him a sporty watch such as the Seiko Diver or Citizen Diver. It's sporty and still suitable for daily wear as well as a trip to the gym. I guess u know your guy friend best.

and true, tag is an overpriced watch. maybe Tissot, Balmain?

Hmm ... if I have to choose, I'd go for the first one. For a TH, my fav will be the Oracle/BMW limited edition one. Not the latest but I've no regrets getting it. http://www.orologico.it/dbase/655.html
