I am new to editing videos using DSLR.

I notice videos on my Canon 550D is in quicktime format and my current software is unable to use. Which software is recommended? Thanks.

I'm using cineform to transcode the mov file to avi first before using Sony vegas to edit

Edius will accept the Canon mov files natively and still provide some realtime editing capability.

Use Adobe CS5 Premiere Pro and you'll be editing as easily as editing DV, without the need for conversion.

I tried the demo version yest. Not used to interface as a beginner as they got lots of buttons which would be really helpful to someone who is an expert user. After putting a few clips, how do i make a movie out of them?

There is a button above the timeline that has an option Export to File. The button is towards the right of the screen. Sorry not to be more specific but I am not at my editing PC right now.

When you select Export to File, you get options to select the render format, resolution etc.

Since most of you who posted here are novices to video-editing, Edius, Avid or even FCP should be out of the question. Get something easier like PINNACLE HD STUDIO 14 ULTIMATE, as long as you're running i5,4gb ram,1gb video card, everything will be a breeze. It's really just drag and drop, and best of all, MAGIC BULLET.
