I thought Hoya HD is not cheap also? It is suppose to be better and more scratch resistance than noraml Hoya filter. Correct me if i am wrong.

Yes u're right, and also easier to clean too.

Well... I just found out eugenep selling 58mm hoya HD @ $58 (NOT THE CHEAPEST)... http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=499746&highlight=hoya+hd

I should have check the price before i purchase the filter... The sales person (addy teo) convinced me that's the best price around... In fact that's the highest price so far... Most of the shops do not sell this Hoya HD UV filter... CP-P sell Hoya HD CPL 58mm filter for $52 (GST included!!!)... J3:16 sell B+W 58mm filter @ $75...

I learnt my lesson... Do not trust the salesman... The shop is Song Brothers at Funan... dirty tricks... When i was at the counter there were a group of filipino kena cheated also... They added another 7% for GST at the cashier... and the salesman NEVER inform them about this until almost everything is done including stamping the warrantee card... So those filipino lan lan pay for the stuffs...

I don't think i lost much (unless the Hoya HD filter is a fake filter)... about $17 or more... but I definitely will not go back to this shop again... :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Song Brothers is hardly considered a reputable shop here on CS.

They're not a reputable shop either in VRZ or HWZ. Well known to target unsuspecting customers, especially tourists.

Yes... I asked for Hoya HD filters... he told me he only have Hoya HD CPL filters... no UV filters... Please double check with the shop again... :)

Yes u're right, and also easier to clean too.

i see differing views here on B+W or Hoya HD is easier to clean. So have anybody uses or own both filters? Which is easier to clean?

IMO, Hoya norm grade filter is quite hard to clean, always made the whole filter even dirtier than before cleaning...

Yeah becos the standard filters do not have the coatings to allow easier cleaning.

Which one is better?
1) B + W XS-Pro Digital Filters
(Provide Extra-Slim Mounting Rings that Eliminate Problems Associated with SLR Wide-angle and Telephoto Imaging.) B+W XS-Pro Digital Filters have front threads for mounting additional accessories such as filters, screw on shades and lens covers. XS-Pro filter rings are made of brass and are matt black to prevent reflections. A Clear Type 007 MRC filter is now available. Planned are 010 UV MRC & KSM circular pol-filter MRC (unknow when release??).
Most expensive.

2) Hoya HD filters
HARDENED GLASS/WATERPROOF / SCRATCH & STAIN RESISTANT MULTI-COATING
Hardened optical glass with specialized coatings that are not just water-proof to repel water spots but also hardened to be scratch and stain resistant.
Will be available in UV and Circular Polarizers in standard sizes from 52mm ~ 82mm in May, 2008.

3) B + W MRC F-pro
MRC refers to the unique Multi Resistant Coating which also comes as standard on B+W XS-Pro Digital Filters. In addition, the scratch-resistant, water- and dirt- repellent outer layer makes it easier to clean the glass surface.
My comment: Is worth paying as glass, very easy to clean but glass thickness NOT slim enough.
