Which tripod and scanner?

Hi people. Will be doing my annual acquisition exercise. Two items on this decade's buy list is

1) Tripod + Ball head. [250]
2) Flatbed/Film scanner. [300]

Any suggestions as to what's good? My shots are usually landscapes and would prefer a tripod that is rather mobile [read: light] yet firm.

Since i figure that i would not be getting a digital cam till Canon introduce a 60mp full frame DSLR for S$1000, i decided on a scanner instead. Anyone which i can use for scanning negs and slides.
