Which software use to burn for DVD playable.

Hi all
Sorry if this is a noob questions as i need to burn my video files into a .VOB or any dvd playable formate to run via DVD player.
But the "I am too DVD" and "NeuroBurner" seems not to be doing a good job...
What are the things i need to take note and which software is better for high quality dvd burning?
I'm exporting out in .AVI, is it wrong? Thanks and sorry for the trouble ppl C=
