Well, every shop gives better prices if the rapport is there.. same as when I prepare quotes to my preferred client. We are doing a business and not charity.. we have bottom lines to meet. If you expect the cheapest price, I think it's really ridiculous.. we should be glad it's already selling below RRP with some level of service. Of course, working with retail projects for long, I know what gifts/discount can be thrown in, so I bargain from there.. but this need skills and not everyone has the skin thick enough to bargain! ;p

But ultimately it's your wallet, if you are not happy, don't buy and leave. No point sulking and bitching about it here. If you have the purchasing volume, then it's a different story altogether.

I think the bottom line is do your homework... and dun be embarrass to ask for bargain... :bsmilie:

You want great price or good service? In my experience, the two dont go along together generally.

If you are expert shopper, look for best price....if newbie best to look for good service if want to avoid being chopped like carrot.

I'm looking for at least helpful customer services and assistance when i'm in doubt then price come later and should not be high enough to raise ur eyebrows. Eg. I went Alan (Funan) quoted a hoya cir-pl for $65 and John for $75 and and... Alan (SL) for $58.

That's a service attitude that will need another 5..10 years to develop. As long as customers are only out for "cheap cheap" without honouring good service it cannot develop. In the same way shops have to learn that consulting a customer with knowledge and sound advice can create a good relationship and makes customers coming back - even if the price is not the lowest in town. From what I read here in CS it seems that some shops are already on that way - but a single sales guy can spoil everything.

You are right man. I have ever experienced ridiculous price inconsistencies and poor service from the top shop in this poll. In the end the experience varies and its up to the individual. Shops must learn to make relationships. My stand is, dun like dun buy and dun recommend. Just tell your friends not to go there. That's the consumer's right

you cant blame them thou, some of the shops simply have alot of sales personnel, some are authorised to give bigger discounts, some part timers simply are not. so that will depends on who you look for.

Then always look for the BOSS....:bsmilie:

one experience with MScolor the other day.

- called main shop to enquire of a camera
- said have stock, running low and ask if to reserve.(which i didn't)
- called the shop at amk hub, and enquire of same camera.
- was quoted RRP. when feedback a cheaper price which was provided one week earlier, they said okay ($10 cheaper then main shop price) but they have no stock and going to check main store. asked to call back in a while.
- called back and they said no more stock at both stores. :dunno:

thinking maybe they just do not want to do my business.

maybe the set that you could have gotten got sold away in between the phone calls? it is highly plausible.

that'll be very fast. within less then 2 mins for a few sets to be sold.

When I got my 50mm 1.8 "el cheapo" from them. The wonderful lady boss let me look through 3 pieces, fiddle around, etc. no complaints, no funny stare, no "wa lau... lens so cheap, still so anal, wasting my time" feel at all. For good price, no doubt. For good service, I rest my case. From my personal experience.:thumbsup:

M S Color! Very reasonable pricing.
Of all the shops i have been to... Cathay, Alan, MS, etc, it made me feel the most comfortable to be in.

Later i went back to the John 3:16 shop, i was standing beside an ah moh, he was looking for a uv len. the len only cost $15 in cathy photo and gues how much they quote him, $105. I immediately walk off the shop and tell myself never walk in again to thsi shop.

AFAIK john 3:16 doesn't sell those ordinary filters ($15.00), i only see quality filters like HOYA pro1d, B+W etc. Price of filters varies from brands to sizes.;)

Coz those filter bring more profit compared to a typical cheap filter... :bsmilie:

Infact before i walk in to J3:16, i had chk with a few shop example tk photo, they selling for $35. I don mentioned which uv. Cathy selling for $15.

As the ah moh was asking about the price i was just standing beside him cos curious to know the price. When the salesman quoted him $105, i stare at the saleman and he look back at me as though he feel a bit guilty. As i mentiond, i just walk off from the shop after that. I do feel abit guilty for not informing the ah moh about the price. But hope he is not that stupid to pay that much as well.

As this tread talk about better price and customer service.

I must say their customer service is excellent, price wise (no comment), may be unless u are regular.. Honesty -:thumbsd:

2 posts member....hmmmm.... anyway, john 3:16 usually has loads of pple in the shop most of the time, so if they try to chop carrot head, i'm pretty sure the regular customers around then will also take notice. maybe samuel was just making a joke which you missed out some parts, since he likes to make small talks and jokes. do you know the brand and type of filters the person was buying? or do you presume there's only one type and brand of filter in the world?

anyway, i voted for j316, they always give me good service and good prices. i had quite bad experience at ap sls. wanted to buy a tamron lens, got quoted a price of ard $680, next week went back, was quoted $100 cheaper for the exact same lens.

MS Color or ALan Photo SLS are tops. For MSC it helps if you are a regular customer and for AP SLS, when you go buy things there, make sure you have done your homework and deal with their staff with confidence and show them you are those who know what is going on type.

MSC very friendly friendly and sincere service especially by boss, AP SLS no nonsense, ask for what you want, give them your money and walk out, short and sharp. If you want to just walk in and ask around wihtout intention of buying and have a lot of free time, go to THAT shop in Funan where everybody are brothers to them...
