I always go to Audiohouse : )

Couldn't agree more. Once, I bought a camera only to find there were about 220 actuations when I got home... it's like buying a new car with 500km on the odometer! I only had myself to blame for not being detailed enough. Nonetheless, being quite a regular customer there, it is not a good sign. But this is still not the straw that broke my back.

Despite being listed as reputable or has the best pricing in town, it is still down to the individual buyer to really check out the goods he/she is getting.

Actually, this is the tough part isn't it? We all would like to test the camera, but we don't really like it if the camera has already been tested by others before.

Maybe they can at least sell it as "demo set"?

Depends what you need.

Orient Photo, Cathay Photo are the only ones that have earned my business as they are conveniently located.

In my experience, better price and customer service usually do not come together in the same package so i look instead for competitive pricing and adequate customer service. Also it helps to buy things frequently rather then all at one shot to build up relationship with the shop. Salesmen often/always remember faces who come in often and always buy something even if its cheap compared to people who sink thousands at one shot.

I had experiences at both T.K. and John 3:16.

T.K. - I went there once on a Fri to try out D60. I was prepared to buy but unfortunately, due to lack of time (I had something on in the evening), I left without buying and said that I would be back again the next day to buy it. I was disappointed when Richard actually said "Why not buy today instead of coming back again?"

John 3:16 - I went there the 1st time to buy a EOS 450D and a Lowepro bag ($145). One week later I went back to do a screen protector for my camera and I overheard someone being quoted $140 for the camera bag. 3rd time I went back to the shop to buy a G10 and DB-036 ($118). To my dismay, I saw an online blog and this person was charged $105 for his DB-036 and his purchase was in April 08!

I'm pretty upset at the price inconsistencies at John 3:16 and I really wonder if I should go back there again, though I must admit they are pretty patient with their customers.:dunno:

DB-036 ($118). previous price was $105

well, most people would rather go for building a relationship rather than hopping from shop to shop...
but sometimes, when i want to get something from the regular store, i find that they might not give the best price due to the price they obtain their stocks at
also, very hard to bargain too much from your regular shop cause you know them already, a bit pai say....
a new shop might sometimes give a better price...
but the issue is the after sales service if something goes wrong...

i have changed a DSLR after purchase for 2 weeks due to camera faulty... they did a one to one exchange..
lens wise, also managed to get them to exchange due to lens not being sharp....
this is why sometimes it is better to let your regular shop earn your money, even though it might quote you a slightly higher price.

:)

My personal ranking - 1. MScolor/Lords 2. Cathay photo 3. TCW 4. John 3:16(abit pricy) last and absolutely NO! NO! - Alan photo!!!!!

Any bros here can tell me which shop here really really welcomes and provide good cs and assist customers? Almost all the shops give same Bo Chap attitude. I went to Alan photo (Funan), John (Funan), Cathay (Peninsula), MS Color, Orient Photo and Alan Photo (Sim Lim). I can say John 3:16 is the more friendlier shop campare to the rest but the price they quote somehow higher and i came across Ben at Alan (SL) his cs not bad.

You want great price or good service? In my experience, the two dont go along together generally.

If you are expert shopper, look for best price....if newbie best to look for good service if want to avoid being chopped like carrot.

Well, maybe everyone can't expect the same level of service even from the same shop...

So far my experience is that John 3:16, which price is not the cheapest, always give me good service. Just don't go there Friday evening / Saturday....

MS Color, in the other hand, the quoted price sometimes worst than John 3:16... But I had good experience also there with one of the salesperson... I think his name was Henry... hmmm I can't really remember names :embrass: But I remember faces of person giving me good service

TK photo is also good... price-wise it was reasonable, just like John 3:16, and the service was good too especially if you call in advance...

Cathay photo and Alan Photo... they were okay IF you already know the price of the product, called them first to ask, and remember the name of the person.

Lord's Camera... the price was good, but the uncle was somewhat cold-faced... But from the price they gave me, I know that they're honest people.

P&G... Service is okay.... price for new items are fine... but second hand items are rather ex.

Shop with poor customer service:
Oriental Photo, they don't care when I came in and browsing the tripod section...
Alan Photo (Simlim) especially if you don't call first...

OP has a different style and it might be confusing for people who are used to the 'standard behaviour' in other shops. The guys in OP let you browse through and check, something that I really appreciate instead of the lurking "Yes, boss..?" or "Need a camera..?"
Once you have found what you want or you have a question then just grab the guys and talk to them.

Normally I buy a number of stuff together and see if I can ask for a better discount. For price, I normally do my research first to make sure I don't get chop (that much)... so far I don't need a lot of service but more discount... :bsmilie:

After reading the forum, my mind was set to purchase 6 unit of D90 from john 3:16 but however something happen and i change my mind from buying from them.

Happen to be at funan on friday. Drop in to John shop. pretending to ask if they have stock for D90, they say have and have plenty of stock. They ask me if i had reserve, i say yes. As he was busy with other customer, i told him i will come back later.

50 min pass and i call them instead, pretending to ask them if stock is in today. To my surprise, the answer was no. Stock not in yet. I even told them i was in reserve list, told them that other shop already have stock why not their.

Later i went back to the John 3:16 shop, i was standing beside an ah moh, he was looking for a uv len. the len only cost $15 in cathy photo and gues how much they quote him, $105. I immediately walk off the shop and tell myself never walk in again to thsi shop.

I do agree that the staff there are friendly and customer service is good but rather not honest with the price.

In the end i end up buying from cathy photo which their price are reasonable. Best of all is their product are all label with price tag.

Are you sure that it was exactly the same UV filter (brand, model, diameter) that you saw in CP and J3:16? There are filters for S$15 and S$150 ...

Infact before i walk in to J3:16, i had chk with a few shop example tk photo, they selling for $35. I don mentioned which uv. Cathy selling for $15.

As the ah moh was asking about the price i was just standing beside him cos curious to know the price. When the salesman quoted him $105, i stare at the saleman and he look back at me as though he feel a bit guilty. As i mentiond, i just walk off from the shop after that. I do feel abit guilty for not informing the ah moh about the price. But hope he is not that stupid to pay that much as well.

As this tread talk about better price and customer service.

I must say their customer service is excellent, price wise (no comment), may be unless u are regular.. Honesty -:thumbsd:

You haven't answered the question. Do you know which brand / model was offered? Do you know that there are indeed UV filters for S$15 but also for S$105? Check the Mass Orders here for B+W filters and you will see the price difference between some cheap glass and a high-end filter. I seriously doubt that John3:16 will offer a S$15 UV filter for S$105 to an Ang Moh. That's rather the tactics of Sim Lim Square shops.

my vote goes to MS color..look for florence.but do your homework on the pricing first before going down..you never know sometime they still chop you like a robert head
