may i know whats "M S colour" or where can i find that shop?
thanks

My vote goes to John 3:16. First time I entered a retail store and all their staff took turns to introduce themselves to me even though they were busy.

I'd have to mention TK Foto as well, their staff answered my enquires very honestly, even if they would earn less by doing so.

MS Colour for me, no one will let me take a camera to the roadside to carry out shutter lag test with moving cars.

Ya... which also means someone else maybe buying the camera you have just USED for testing.

Couldn't agree more. Once, I bought a camera only to find there were about 220 actuations when I got home... it's like buying a new car with 500km on the odometer! I only had myself to blame for not being detailed enough. Nonetheless, being quite a regular customer there, it is not a good sign. But this is still not the straw that broke my back.

Despite being listed as reputable or has the best pricing in town, it is still down to the individual buyer to really check out the goods he/she is getting.

MS color has my vote too

the only shop that i know that doesnt even allow you to try cameras is Mustafa. Their cameras are all wrapped up. you can't even feel the buttons. and they guarantee the cameras are 100% brand new.

this is wat i mean by good customer service.

but i dun know whether they sell the DSLR or SLR not.......

sometimes i go to these other shops like MS color or whatever, i feel sometimes the cameras u buy are not totally brand new.....

To be frank, almost anywhere we go we will not be sure if it is a "brand-new-hot-from-oven-shipped-from-the-production-line" stock. :bsmilie:

Only place that might give us a totally new set are those major stores which sell at higher price. If not wrong, even those big name shop might just pass a "lightly-tested" set to any one of us...

So i guess it's a give and take. Not too much testing done on the set is fine with me else i will "demand" a big discount on that "demo" set. :sweatsm:

I get a mixed service at MS. First trip I was served by Sharon, she was attentive and help me as much as she could. End up I bought something. Next trip, she was in the other shop and a plump man attended to me, he was quite "bo chap" when I asked for a few stuff he just go "this one quite expensive" or "$xxxx" without bothering to show me the item or explain further.

At TK, Philip served me, was very helpful and knowledgeable. It's TK for me.

I had a bad experience with the plump guy at MS too. He quoted me a price higher than other shops and said that he is only making a $1 profit... After some bargaining, he reduced $20! cos I threaten to go CP instead...

Service-wise, I find John 3:16 is really good. Don't really find CP staffs very friendly. Gonna try out TK in the coming weeks. These are just my personal opinions, I have not been to all the other shops yet.

As for pricing, I prefer to do my homework by getting a few quotations to compare.

TK Foto good and friendly service, price quite competitive. Had a bad experience at MS, the lady who attended to me was unfriendly.

After reading this thread last week, i went to check MS color few days ago, nobody seems to bother abt me when i went in to the shop lei. The one and only response from the uncle was "dun have" when i asked for a type of filter...and then the nicer oulet next door selling camera bags a young lady attend to me when i checking the tamrac bags. I think its a normal customer service ba... not really good

So, with the mixed replies from the bros, it all boils down to our own homework and 'know the price and stuff well' first before going down to buy. Looks like different salesperson will quote different price at different shops. Sounds very much like lucky plaza: u look or sound like tourist and your pricing gets bumped up....

service wise.. I feel ms color and John is good. Whenever I asked about something, even if its cheap stuff, they will answer. They will find out the answer when they dunno. Not like some shops where u ask about cheapo stuff, they just say dunno or dun sell and try to look away, etc.. Its like they are telling me, they only serve "big carrots".

John gets my vote because they are very friendly even if you just want to find out things and not really buying. They will tell you what they know. Even if they dont sell, they will tell you where to get it.

the two shops that I patronise are not on the list...

Bras Basah Colour Centre, & Fotohub. these two are for processing and printing.

Cathay & Ruby both for equipments, films and accessories.

On a common practice, it works ( every time ) for any shop....walks in and dump $10 - $20 K of purchase and sure your next appearance will be treated like their godfather/mother. Either, can spread it out like every week goes in and spend $1 K for the next 20 weeks, sure you'll get special discount for this and that.
Otherwise, most of the time you will meet with a no, yes answer.

Went to MS colour last week and bought a lens filter. Reached home and found out that the box is actually empty! Only got the filter case inside. Luckily it's only $10 cheap filter.

that is a showroom model which they let anyone interested to test use, like they say, get the feel of it. when you want to purchase, they will get you one from the store. just like test driving the car in any car show room.

instead of shop jumping, you should right at the start establish a long term relationship with one of the saleman. one such honest man is kevin from cathay photo at peninisula.

Cathay Photo has higher chances of getting a brand new cam. Reasons being they stock up plenty and dun have to repack display unit back into boxes.

Those who dun stock up will gladly open up their boxed set, let you play and then repack them. 10 customers come they open up 10 times.

I have returned cams to some other shops(Due to minor cosmetic blemishes or BIG elephant in lens) and I see them repack into boxes and back into display showcases immed to resell them as new again!

Vote for MS! haa... I din buy anything for myself frm there b4 but purchase for my friend. 1 panasonic compact, another sony dslr. Purchase frm Karen. Friendly sales lady. But I heard friend ask me to approach Jackson. I can imagine he's a friendly guy too though I nv know him.

John 3:16 is my 2nd choice of friendiness but sometime too friendly makes my doubt... haa.

I personally ban CP, has quite a no. of bad experiences there. Unless left wif no choice...
