dont go to the branch in the shopping mall.

go the shop at blk 711.

Got a better pricing at the mall branch. It depend who is the sale that serve you.
At 711 the older sale staff (the boss i think ) are quite friendly, the younger one, I am not quite sure.
Still prefer to get things from the shop in the mall.

ms colour win... alan photo have alot to learn from them

If I'm Ang Mo, I might vote for AP. Since I'm not, I'll vote for my fav, MS Color.

Hi Guys,

Although I found the poll interesting and I shall pay more attention to MS Color in future, the poll is fairly meaningless from a serious statistical point of view. Just think how easy it would be for any shop to get all of their staff and a few of their friends to vote for them. With such low numbers of people participating such an effect could easily overwhelm the votes of unbiased members.

Sorry to be a bit negative, don't take it badly, I regard ClubSNAP as one of my best sources of information on photographic equipment and the best places to buy it.

Cheers,

Pete

MS Color  I was given a drink when I bought my Canon 400D.

The other shop I had bought things from were -- Ruby photo and Cathay photo. They were good too...very helpful and friendly.

John 3:16..They offered great services and brought my camera from them. They will advise which lense is good and even explain in details.:)

Hi bro, during the Film Era my taiwan fren brought me to John 3:16 as he frequent there, the shop staffs not the same people anymore. I went up last week to check it and there were crowds, i overheard this sales person telling a customer to take d300 instead of d90 as d90 has a lousy live video. Well, i had my D90 not long ago...

Beware the potency of the drink, it may contain the BBB Virus. :o It looks like just a small harmless cup of plain water but once you drink it, :nono: the BBB poison will spread through your mind and your urge to buy will overcome you. :bsmilie: ;)

As long as the D90 works well for you , you dun have to feel bad :)
Most of the time I think they are a fun bunch to buy items from. But you will have to take what they say with a pinch of salt, sometimes people do not come clean, and sometimes customers are pretty much smarter than what they think.

How about South Asia Computer Pte.Ltd. anybody try before other than those popular shop ?

How about South Asia Computer Pte.Ltd. anybody try before other than those popular shop ?

i have asked South Asia before on cameras..... good service actually

i asked quite alot of questions, but never buy. the sales ppl still friendly and patient. i even went back 2 times in the same afternoon, while loitering around in Funan... and same sales person attended to me twice.

i would consider to buy from them actually, other than AP in Funan.

Their price can actually match AP's prices, if you know how to press them.

TK Foto good and friendly service, price quite competitive. Had a bad experience at MS, the lady who attended to me was unfriendly.

For good customer service, my personal vote would go to Paris Silk @ Transit Road, and Mr Vincent is the man. Friendly, knowledgeable and chattable even if you walk out empty handed. The only problem is that they don't carry too many stocks.

Although I've been buying mostly from MS Colours out of familiarity, I personally find their service over-rated. Except for Florence, the rest are forgettable. Maybe it's due to a lousy experience I better left unsaid, which was totally against the service creed.

Thus it's PS @ Transit Rd.

Just voicing out my personal preference.

Brought items from various stores: CP, OP, MS, TK.

OP given me the overall good experience. Stanley is the only person i deal with and please with his service so far. Price wise might not be the best nowadays but still all right.

MS is the place i will go only if i manage to get a good deal from Florence. Again, i only contact her and deal with her solely when i need to buy something.

TK offers something that others don't: ThinkTank. I alway call and ask for James to quote me and make a trip down. However, i only deal with an old chap there whom i never ask what is his name. But he have given me a pleasing attitude by simply remembering what i have brought the last trip there when it's like more than just few weeks back. His smile and willing to give me a small discount on the overall bill lure me to buy things from him over and over. :bsmilie: Sadly, they do not stock up much items thus the few visit to them, i only get ThinkTank stuff from them. Overall, honest sincere deal.

CP is the place i will go to when they have stock of the items i need where other runs out. Florence is the lady i will ask for quote and usually she give me a price that make me set my mind to get it on the spot. Other than that, i seldom go CP.

John is the only place i step in less than 3 times. Each time, apart from being crowded, they have no stock for the stuff i wanted to buy. Price wise, not really the lowest but i guess their reputated good service lure more customer back which explained the crowds in all my 3 visits to them.

AP - last place in the list of store i will go. Reason is simple. Overprice in almost all of th quote they have given me. Maybe i did not approach the correct person. Last visit is the worst. Was looking for 3rd party battery pack for my flash. Saw that they are selling Camera Device's battery pack. Recalled that i read up somewhere in CS that it's selling like 90ish so was thinking of buying. I asked and was disgusted by the quote: $165. That's it for AP. Ended up i got it at TK at the price of $95 while OP (the second shop approached after AP) is selling at $110.

Hope my own experience can be helpful in others who is rather new (i'm new myself to speak so) and excited to get more gears in near future. Some call and legwork does save one some money at the end. But of cos, service come with a price. If good service is provided, i guess one should look aside the slightly more expensive price tag and established a long term relationship with a store whom you can trust on each single purchase of your.

Thanks for sharing Maverick. My friend bought a new canon from MS, and opened it up at home and realised that the battery pack has already been opened (in fact, the pack looks its been opened a few times), so he had the impression that the salesman at MS most likely have swapped his new battery for a 2nd hand one: there's no reason for the shop to open up the new battery pack as they should already have a spare battery for customer to do testing. heck, the camera itself could be a display set.... so, take note when purchasing a new set: check if the battery packs, or the main body packaging has been opened many times.

We went to Parisilk nee soon camp also to get a battery pack bp511 3rd party and was quoted at $60. when we told him our friends bought it at $28, he said he go and check and revert to us: "oh, erm, my mistake, we bought this battery in bulk, so the price should be better, its $28, not $60..." When we reach there, there was only ONE battery pack there, and its the old model, bp511. The new model is 511A which retails at the same price.... and asked for CF card kingston 133x speed and was quoted about $60! We just went to Sitex and got it for about $30-...... maybe we look like tourists visiting the mandai zoo who ran out of batteries.

On a lighter note, Cathay had given us the cheapest quote with no hidden charges. To share with other bros, most shops charge 5% if u opt for 0% instalment plan, but the price Cathay quoted seemed less than 5%, it is about 3% only . Considering the fact that the shop in Ang Mo Kio is fully paid (no rental costs) and the high rental in Marina Square and peninsula, Cathay can still provide better prices, I would support Cathay whenever possible. With low rental overheads, those shops outside the CBD should pass over some savings to customers by way of much cheaper prices, everyone agree?

I get a mixed service at MS. First trip I was served by Sharon, she was attentive and help me as much as she could. End up I bought something. Next trip, she was in the other shop and a plump man attended to me, he was quite "bo chap" when I asked for a few stuff he just go "this one quite expensive" or "$xxxx" without bothering to show me the item or explain further.

At TK, Philip served me, was very helpful and knowledgeable. It's TK for me.

Well, I had a fairly good experience with CP at Peninsular. Bought my 1st DSLR with them as they send me a quote barely 1 day I sent out. Called them that I might be late and they promptly agreed. I was served by James, pretty accommodating since it's already way past their operation hours

I also bought at OP. Fairly good but short experience though. Definitely has no worries going back to them too.

While had been intro to two other shops namely TCW and John 3:16 by my friends but had yet to try them out myself.

bro kingston elite pro 8gb x133 selling for $28.80 at SLS

Cathay Photo for me..

wanted something that only the Peninsula shop has... but by the time I end work, Peninsula would have closed and I needed the lens the next day.. The staff there kindly helped me transfer to Marina Square branch so that I can pick it up after my work.. for them going the extra mile! (though its quite common for stores to transfer stock.. still quite a good gesture that they are willing to do it despite the last minute request:thumbsup:)

Hmmm for me the shop I bought most of my stuff so far is MS Colour. They sell local sets + competitive prices. Gotta say I used to stay at ang mo kio and when i when there in sec sch to buy a digicam as a complete noob, the guy (uncle to me then) was super friendly and recommended I got a cheap kodak easyshare rather than the more expensive Canon/sony digicams back then. Not surprisingly, that camera is still in use and generates pretty good picture quality from today's standpoint! But well out of 3 times i went back, 2 times i get cold shoulders and bo chup attitudes from the new/younglings. Abit sian that always have to ask for Florence etc unless I got an e-quote earlier =D

Agree but the prices are not as high as many people claim they are.I bought my manfrotto 190CXPRO3 from them $40 cheaper than cathay photo.OP also quoted roughly the same as cathay photo although the prices at OP are not as firm as the other shops.
