Come on people, share your experience with us :D

Never had a bad experience at Cathay, but had once or twice at SLRR and TK. So Cathay ftw.

TK standard dropped much with the new faces.

Went in want to buy things, stand in front of the spectacled guy (not the famous lanky guy) and wait for him to attend to me, he busy, gestured to his colleague and point to me. It is rude to use finger to point at people. The correct way is to use the whole palm and gesture as one would treat another person. No manners and no respect for customers. The curly hair guy (not the usual Malay gent) who then attend to me half heartedly, was snacking away at the same time at some finger food. I think their behavior was perfectly ok if you compare to SLS, but however I think the standard had declined from the Beach Rd days. So I also decided not to buy there and bought from Cathay, where the buying experience was good from salesman to cashier auntie.

Compared to the previous time I was there right after they closed, the staff insist they are closed, but I was attended by the boss himself, who lifted up the roller shutter and helped me a lot to get the things I need since I need the stuff urgently next day. No need yes sir no sir kind of service-pretence-nonsense, not hotel, but must have basic courtesy and common social grace.

If the guy is busy he will definitely ask someone else to attend to you, better than no one attend to you at all right?

ANd if i recall, the malay uncle at there is not even a sales staff, he is just a driver who help tk send stock to other places

Chop? hmm... TK is a one price store...

I wanted to buy the x100 and asked about their best price. They said their price is indicated at the price tag. No further discount. At the end I got it cheaper at SLR R

I brought my friend around to buy the x100, got quoted 1399 by Cathay, 1390 by slr & 1410 by John, tk quoted 1429 but he still buy from them as they bundle a jjc lens hood with it, so depend on which package you like, with lens hood or without lens hood...

Have been with MS Color since young and this place has been my first piority when it comes to camera equip unless they do not carry the product i want.

Just today they solved my equipment problem with their excellent customer service which i thought some other shops may just ask me to go claim warranty and wash their hands off customers' problem.

Not too sure if MS has the best price in town but i am certain they are one of the best in pricing. I am not too particular about the few dollar and cents when i buy products with ease of mind.

I have made purchases from these 3 shops. SLRR, TK and JO316

JO316:
I think this is 1 of the better places to go to if you like to ask alot of questions and try out the camera/lens before purchasing. The salesmen are very approachable, knowledgeable and most importantly, patient Best Customer Service(although sometimes, the owner talks too much lol). Good place for newbies to ask questions and clarify doubts before buying. Pricing wise, JO316 is definitely not the most competitive. Might have to wait awhile before being served, especially on friday nights and weekends because it is usually so crowded and there are only 2 or 3 staff. Although there are only 2 staff there, occasionally there might be an additional 1 or 2 regular customers helping to attend to customers, they are equally knowledgeable and friendly. :)

SLRR: Sales staff are generally helpful, but less approachable as compared to JO316. Prices are the most competitive, I believe they are nett iirc. Service is quick and efficent. Go here if you have already decided on what to buy.

TK: Have only bought from them once, first impression, their service is similar to SLRR, pricing slightly better than JO316.

Haha nice to see SLRR in the lead, and deservedly so. This shop is "no horse run". Everytime I visit, everytime I leave a happy customer, both from price point and service point.:thumbsup:

Orient Photo for me, :)

Hm...Orient Photo is quite conducive & pleasant...The staff there is quite forthcoming especially Stanley. But I heard from some "reliable sources"saying that they carry grey or parallel import goods.Just keep a watchful eye though...Cheers!

Emm... its well known they carry gret set and they are quite good at it, once my friend who was a CPS member ask Canon Singapore to bring in a 28-300L lens hood because he lost him & it took Canon Singapore 2 months and still no news, OP brought it in from China in 2 weeks, kudos to OP as well....

To me John 316 is very friendly, dun have any bad experience so far with them.
The worst to me is Cathay, the staff seems like look down on some customer like u dun have money one lah... and serve the Ang moh like a king when i was there.
Maybe i was unlucky that time...

I had good experiences with SLR Rev and TK. NO price chopping there. I've been to Cathay and while the people are very friendly, the prices are less so when the other shops at Funan seems to give a better bargain.

I think you are just unlucky lah, I mean I've went into Cathay @ Marina many times, just to look see look see, sometimes never buy anything, sometimes just by a can blower only. But I've not received such treatments. They will just look see if you need help, and let you look around instead of stalking behind your back, giving you the unnecessary pressure. Ask them anything, they will try to help or recommend.

Maybe I'm not very picky. To me, as long as the shop has want I want, sells be at a good price, not selling fake/lemon goods, no rude staff, that's good enough.

I vote Cathay Photo, I brought a 2nd hand Lowepro DryZone Rover from one of the CS. The Zip came off so I went to ask to repair, as I do not have received or document But they just change for me the whole dry compartment new. Great Job!

Some of them are nice while some doesnt.. One price store but i managed to bargain down $10 less from an under $100 product.

Hi Guys/Gals ,

I am intending to upgrade my current D90 to a D700 model and buys a WA lenses.

Any recommendation on any reasonable shop that provide 0% installation 6month/12month with major Credit Card with no admin cost overhead.

Paying a huge lump of $$$$ with GST for this items would be a huge burden but i am comfortable in paying it across 6 month or 12 month using card .

If anyone got any lobang then it would be great help for this not so rich fella with an expensive hobby ..

I guess this would also help the rest of our comrade who have limited amount of money to spend .

Cheers

I believe the price guide section has a list of reputable shops?

I've been impressed with SLRR. Looks like those Sim Lim square kind until you talk and buy stuff from them. They're actually very reasonable and forthcoming with info.

JO316 is a best place to gather info. Samuel is a great guy and so are his staff but find their prices are wee bit expensive. Service is impt but price is king unfortunately to me. Unless is grey set else its the deciding factor.

Don't like Cathay. Just find their service rather high handed.

I actually like the stores in peninsula too. Like sgcamerastore or artworkfoto.
