Especially when (i) I don't know if I will actually end up buying, and (ii) its a relatively cheapo prime...

Not sure about other shops but CP allows you to try.

John 3:16 pretty ok.

i believe most of the shops allow their potential customers to try out the lenses. CP, MS, OP, TK to name a few.

Agreed..especially when it's a cheapo prime like you said and not some lens over $10k. Parisilk (HV) allows too.

So far, CP, TK and MS allow me to test before payment.

all reputable shops should allow testing of lens.... how would we know the condition of the lens if we dun test them.

Great, thanks for the info. Happy new year to all...

depends also... even though i bought 28-300 and 501.4 from TK they refused testing until payment was made... and claimed this applied to all customers

yea i bought a camera body and they said no testing until you 'show them the money :bsmilie:'

they only let you test if you confirm you want to buy then they let you test if item is faulty or else they claim that if people test test then don't want to buy the item won't be really new

i believe cathay photo and MS colour allows testing
i've tested lens before without 'confirming that i want to buy' before i bought from them

a shop at peninsular plaza let me test the lens when i didnt even had the intension to buy it..

That basically is how Hong Kong camera stores operate. They would let you test the lens only when you say you would buy it. If everything is fine, they will expect you to go ahead to complete the transaction.

Even in US stores such as BHphoto, when you go to their superstore, they have test lenses for you to try out. But, when you decided you want to purchase the lens, they will send one directly from their warehouse. You don't get to try the lens out until you pay for it.

I went to John 3:16 and this guy was like 'we won't let you buy until you try it out first'. :bsmilie:

For one thing, just the service alone makes me want to buy from them even if it's slightttly more ex than say MS.

:D

if u r not sastify with the 1st copy, how many copies can u try so far? i've tested the 2nd copy the most, and bought it.

:o I just asked the young chap at TK how much was the lens, and i wanna try. I got the 2nd copy. He gave me a kind of lost look of why i wanna try another...

I find the guy at Artworkfoto very friendly though. No pressure from him and he also understand why i rejected both his lenses after trying it.

TS - do your research online and seek advise from the shop. Preferably when there are lesser/no customers. If they give you smelly face:complain: or don't let you try, then go elsewhere loh.

MS, TK, SLRR all ok with testing i guess... personally, you must have the intention to buy... if u go there just for the sake of testing... they probably won't allow :(

All the shops that I go to allow testing.

I have patronized MS, Cathay and TK. All allow trying. But I guess it depends on the server you bump into and how you ask.
