I have these three lens paired with my D7K. Sold my tammy (BIM non VC ) early this year. It's damn sharp but with D7K, sometimes failed to auto focus especially in live view mode. I like the Nikkor 35mm DX f/1.8 very much. It's very sharp and nice bokeh (to my taste) and very useful in indoor shooting. Recently the aquired the siggy 17-50mm f/2.8 OS from DD electronic, it's sharp but the zoom ring is something i don't like after so use to nikkor zoom ring. The siggy is more contrasty(to my taste) and the tammy is slightly on the warm side.
Horrible? What do u mean by horrible? Let me 'educate' u further. I bought this len 1 yr ago, local set, 3yr warranty by jel, I paid 670+., w/o filter.
Hi, i happen to have both Tammy 17-50 VC and 35mm F1.8.
Just a hobby photographer and my 2 cents on both lens.
35mm was my first lens and its great, fast AF and sharp. no complains except its very restrictive in tight areas. Mainly for portraits.
Got the Tammy recently with the price drop for local set ($740-$788). 3 yrs local warranty.
Not as sharp as my 35 mm at same aperture and focal length but its a much more versatile lens for moving around. Its on my camera most of the time now.
AF motor is noisy... as highlighted by everyone and can startled my cats when I sneak snapshots on them. Read that its the same compared to non-VC, but nonetheless, AF is still quite fast.
VC is a nice-to-have but I believe can be forgone for lower price or if you use external flash (which i don't). The 2 lens are built differently too according to specs.
I just bought my 17-50 non-vc from technogadgets. Just to check with you guys who have it, is it normal that the zoom is stiff? Also how come indoors it seems as though my normal kit lens can take sharper pictures?
