have not been to thrilled about the quality of printing that comes out from the photo labs these days. digital prints still can't compare to analog prints. anyone know if there's any photo lab that still provides analog printing? That is, printing direct from the negative rather than scan and print.

read somewhere here that there's a shop in johor that still does it.. but can't find the thread anymore.

appreciate any suggestion!

thanks.

i do my b&w ones through ruby, but i think that they outsource it...

sorry, not sure about colour... fotohub? :dunno:

Think analogue colour print is history already, at least in Singapore.

Yes, I can tell the difference between a optical machine and the digital machine. No choice, bt even for digital machine can still see obvious difference between film scan and digital files.

I last know a Kodak shop in Tech Whye still using a optical machine, cannot remember the unit number but it is at the shops near to the 2 Chinese temples in Teck Whye Lane. I would very much like to go to them but then I stay Woodlands and dun drive so have to live with digital ones .......

Um. Do you mean chemical prints? The shop called LK photo in AMK does chemical prints if that is what you mean.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get the digital labs to tune down the amount of sharpening? It's really atrocious to say the least... it's painful to look at the prints!

the shop's name is 'Kedai Gambar Utama' IIRC...it's located along Jalan Meldrum (near Merlin Tower)..last time i asked was last year...not sure if still available...if got time, i'll drop by and ask again... :)

finally find the time to head down to johor for some food and shopping. checked out the photo lab near merlin tower - the place have switched to digital.

Why not check out Habour Front or 35mm Colour Lab at 2nd Ave?

dam interesting topic. very keen to print my pics the old ways also..

digital labs can support film and digital users.

old school film labs can only support film users.

need how many hardcore film users like you to support a old school film labs? how many prints they need to print to keep their business on going?

You don't find them in SG now, cos anything here ain't cheap and free to run a business.

I think Fee Fee still does optical prints... But they only do Konica paper.

I tried Fee Fee a week ago. Unfortunately, They're using digital prints for black and white film too, maybe I have to clarify with them that I want optical prints?

There's a kodak shop at 6th avenue (opposite guthrie house) that does analogue prints from colour negatives, if i'm not wrong!

That's interesting. Is there any number I can call and ask? 6th avenue isn't that accessible for me.

Unfortunately, you need to wait 2 days for any photo development.....:dunno:

I thought you meant colour. Anyway, sounds like they went digital too.

Tell them you want hand prints on black and white paper. Expensive though. $1 for 4R, $10 for 8R.
