which photo editing software is FREE or cheap to purchase?

The fastest way is a download form Adobe using a credit card. The box is just decoration. Next, read up about display calibration, get at least a basic one (e.g. Spyder 3 or the recent Spyder 4), otherwise all editing work is in vain if your display does not show the colours as encoded in the image. Another topic is 'embedded ICC profiles' .. and you will understand why Windows Photo Viewer is nothing you want to use for your images.
Lightroom has a large user base with a dedicated Lightroom Forum, but even the standard online help gives plenty of support.

wow......so much money to spend and so much depth on color calibration -_-
Yep im just paid for it from the US website but they declined my purchase :(

they don't accept paypal, and you need a credit card with USA address to buy from USA site.

i used vpost address and it declined lol! usually it works for all other stuffs! anyway guess ill have to buy locally lol

paint.net for me
irfanview for quick viewing

I am currently using Faststone Image View/Editor

Simple interface, with batch processing (able to save batch code), lossless corp, copy/paste to other folders (go to filter photo)

Small Size and free =)

I usually use PS to complete my shoots, then use Faststone to complete things like resize and frame.

Yes, Faststone is good for fast & easy batch photo processing.

Then quickly buy from Pic N Pixel at Funan. They have 20% discount on all Adobe products. So the LR4 is at $198. Cheaper than Adobe SEA direct download ($217).

Pic N Pixel are still having the 20% discount. Just bought LR4 from them at $198.

for those who are interested in buying from US, I use comgateway to ship it back.
so far so good, no problems / hiccups. Bought my LR3 this feb at half price off from Adorama. Shipping back to SG cost me $12 Sing i think. Can't remember...

Hi all

GIMP 3, when released, wil be of interest to all of you. It won't be as good as PS for sure, as they always lack fund and people to help them with development. The most current version 2.9 (not release version) supports 16 bit, and i guess it may mean it can edit raw files.. from the website it says:

.....Transformation, painting and color adjustment tools will just work in higher bit depth precision modes. More than that, GIMP can load and save 16bit PNG images and save EXR and HDR files now. .......

personally i am waiting for version3 as it will support adjustment layers.. meanwhile i will explore v2.8, which is the release version..

so pls watch out for version 3, it may take 2 years i think

Can anyone recommend some freeware that is good for photo blending/merging?

SG student buy here: Http://www.mine.com.sg

Check if your school is listed first.

Edit: oops. Sorry, they don't sell LR. Photoshop suites only...

Software sold in the US has a statement on the boxes that says "not to be sold to xxx regions"
And on B&H's page, click on the link to read the terms. The institutions stated are all from the states, doesn't apply to your SG student pass.
