Hi

Anyone can share which one is better?

I am considering to get either a Sony PD170 or Panasonic DVX102. I like Sony due to the extra wide angle lens which Panasonic don't have and also Sony seems to have better colour review than Panasonic.. but Panasonic is cheaper by $500.. hehe..

Was wondering which one should i buy? Anyone can share?

Thanks so much for your help. :)

sure or not sony 170 have better colour than dvx 100??? and sony 170+wide angle is still not as wide as panasonic 100 to my knowledge and pana doesn't have distortion, pd170+wide angle= distortion and unbalance feel to it but since you like the pd 170 and already posted it in buy n sell so it shows you like sony more lah... so enuff said

i've used both.

pany's 120 colours r definitely better than sony's 170. it tends to give a more film-like feel to your footage. not only that, the dvx copes with low light conditions much better than the sony's.

if u prefer the home-video type of footage, go for sony 170.

I've seen really good footage shot on the pd170 .. It isn't really home-video like. It depends on the user and the situation you are shooting in . If you have control over your lighting, i'm sure something decent can come out of it also. :)

Sorry , just correcting the home-video part. That really depends on who's shooting it .

i think he is referring to the color la. the pd170 color straight out doesn't have that more "neutral" color the dvx gives in my opinion.

i actually prefer sony camcorders.

i think theres a promo going on at audio house for sony stuff.. something like you pay by DBS 24 month 0% installment plan and you get 3 months installment waived.

yeah pd 170 only if you add more lines to it and it comes out v.very digital quality but if you don't have time wif correcting the lines than best get pana it's hassle free....

Hi All

I just got my panasonic set today...:) however.. after testing...ummm.. don't quite like the colour and oso the quality is quite "home like video" feeling....maybe i don't know how to set... :(

Can anyone advise how to set the camera? I find that it looks quite grainy too in low light compared to my sony v1.. :) but of coz understand sony v1 is another grade too...price great difference compared to panasonic set. :)

Can anyone share what setting should i put to make the camera more "film like" video?

Greatly appreciate. :)

Thanks so much.

I think what you need is a good meet-up session.

The DVX has produced so many countless independent films including feature films and featured documentaries...
It has a more cinematic picture compared to Sony cameras...

Here is what a DVX can do, this is a featured documentary shot 100% on DVX in the war-line. http://www.iraqinfragments.com/

IRAQ IN FRAGMENTS was shot with Panasonic DVX-100 and DVX-100A cameras, using 24p Advanced Pulldown mode, letter-boxed. All sound was recorded on the camera.

300 hours of material were recorded in Iraq between February 2003 and April 2005 for the production. 1600 pages of typed, time-coded, translated transcripts were used in editing.

The film was edited by Billy McMillin, James Longley and Fiona Otway using Final Cut Pro software running on Apple Macintosh computers.

The film was blown up to High Definition size and color corrected at Modern Digital in Seattle.
Dolby Digital sound mixing took place at Bad Animals studios in Seattle.

File-to-Film recording was done at Alpha Cine Labs in Seattle.

Hi Hobbes00

Thanks so much for your feedback...yup... i heard lots of good review here about panasonic colours...therefore i bought it. :)

But think i didn't get the right setting yet.. coz the colours and quality didn't turn out to be as expected yet... now trying to read info from the web and hopefully can find out how to set it.

Hi Meoworks

I just saw your blog site... are those wedding samples filmed in panasonic dvx102? They look great..the colours and quality are good too... can share what setting should i put it? :)

Hi Hobbes00

Thanks so much for your kind help. :) Worried that it's too troublesome for you to meet me.. hehe..but thanks so much... :) I am trying the read up the forum to see if i can find the right setting. Realised that the colour looks abit yellowish (tinted)... trying to fix this part.

If anyone can share their setting, hopefully can email me : barney_bby@yahoo.com.sg.

Thanks for all who had share and help me here. :)

Cheers.

Why not go for HDV format? Final output DVD is much better than SD :D

no worries :)

why dont you bring it back to the shop where you bought it and get em to fix it for you. i did tt when i bought mine at AH.
