Thanks lsisaxon. Nope not using it on those camera bodies you mentioned.

So fellow hobbyists any more feedback/comments? ;p

I'm also a hobbyist who shoots between 2 - 5 times a year and with regards to the subject, started with the..

80-200 1-touch -> 80--200 2-touch -> 70-200VR -> 80-200 2-touch -> 70-200VR -> 80-200 2-touch -> 80-200AFS.

All of them produced very good and sharp shots.
Though the 1-touch needs to pull and push, it also allows the lens to "rest" on your hand while pulling or pushing. This to me is a great plus point.

The VR at most gave me 1 to 1.5 stop advantage in my opinion and sold them as I deem the cost difference is not justifiable .. again my opinion.

Using the 2-touch I found the focusing (though fast) is a little slow that goaded me into the AFS version which I found to be ideal for me .. faster but cheaper.

While playing around with this series of lenses, my cams also changed progressively from Fuji S1Pro -> S2Pro -> D100 -> D1X -> D2h -> D2X & S2Pro. and therefore can only tell you that the AFS with the D2X is the best combination for the moment.

Cheers

Thanks for sharing pals. Not bad, I get to hear from your experiences using the various lenses. Makes me think real hard. If on budget guess won't wrong choosing the 80-200mm f/2.8D one-touch lens. Keep the comments coming in. Thanks.

The one touch without the tripod collar really put a lot of stress on the camera mount and it will not be as stable as compare to the 2 touch when it is mounted on a tripod.

And if u do pixel peep, the AFS version is sharper at the tele end wide open compare to the rest of 80-200mm and 70-200mm VR.

Yap the 2-touch version without the tripod collar can be quite a strain on the camera......can't imagine my camera body with battery grip mounted on a tripod and then with the 80-200mm lens hanging on it....think 1 kilo+.... in the long run will it damage the camera body? Or maybe I worry too much??

On the other hand, if I'm not using the 2-touch version on a tripod often, it can just rest on my palm then it could be just fine. Then again can get 3rd party tripod collar for it too but not so cheap and not that nice too.

2-touch? Or 1-touch? Or AF-S?

And depends what you will be shooting cos the 1 touch AF speed is slower than the 2 touch..

I also read from another site that the 1-touch version the AF is slower compared to the 2-touch version (not referring to the AF-S). Is it true? Did anyone get to use both lenses and notice the difference? Marginal difference in AF speed or really big difference? If I'm not into sports but mainly events & portraits will the 1-touch version be good enough? And if I really need the tripod collar I may consider getting a 3rd party one. Thanks.

well, if u get the 1-touch, it can possibly be between 10 and 20 years old. if possible, try to save up and get the 2-touch. AF is really very decent for a non af-s lens. i have that version and never regretted buying it.

if u look hard enough, u can probably get 1 for less then 1k. as others have mentioned, the 1-touch does gather dust because of the push-pull.
