Half the price of Leicas, 3x the price of bessas LOL
... plus the same noisey shutter of Bessas, the ugly look and stupid bottom rewind of the Minolta CLE.

Nope. Redesigned camera from the ground up. No "bessa bits" in the ZI at all. And the shutter is quieter. I've never referred to the film loading mechanism of Leicas as "stupid". I'm sure there's a reason it was done that way. :)

which M-mount film body has the best finder for focusing? would like to hear your view!:)

Hi,

M3 with its 0.91x mag. has the best viewfinder.

Regarding the Zi, which I have now had in my hands for about a week and can compare it to the Bessa:

The bottom rewind crank allows for a long rangefinder baselength (which addresses the initial question of the TS). It also allows a very clean design of the top plate. It's easier to rewind than a Bessa R.

The only issue I am finding with the viewfinder (having had the ZI for just a week now) is more initial difficulty in aligning the rangefinder patch to the eye. Once aligned however, the patch is bright and sharp.

The LEDs showing the shutter speed are also more clean looking than on the Bessas. They display vertically on the left hand side of the VF (I find it slightly harder to see than the Bessa... could be because I am used to shooting SLRs in which the usual location is along the bottom). The LEDs also indicate aperture exposure lock, which is different from the Bessas.

Undoubtedly, Leica M3. Bright and clear even in low light.

I've used a canon vt-i, m3 & m6... I'll go for m3...
would like to try the ikon & bessa some day...

Yup! that's the best comment on this thread. 0.91 VF actually helps judge the actual distance of your subject.

BUT! it's hard to get a bright one now.

So the ZI rules in terms of brightness.

I briefly tried a Bessar R3M, it has a 1x VF. Can open both eyes to focus. Actually thot to keep it for the VF alone but sold it in the end.

Cool! But my dear friend.... you can't take the inconvenience of film!

Actually I don't know why you complain about film. Afterall, you go to Peninsula almost everyday! One day send in, next day collect loh.

Hi,

It is not just the brightness, but the accuracy of the rf. The Effective base Length, EBL for the M3 is 0.91 x 68.5= 62.33. The 68.5 is the optical base length. Therefore, with an EBL of 62.33, this is the highest among all the M Series and therefore, the best accuracy.

This is especially important when focusing lenses at very wide apertures such as Noctilux at
f1.0 or the 75mm Summilux at f1.4.

My M3 vf is just as bright as my M6 and M8. But the rf patch has, imho, better contrast.

I did not complain about film...I only say I don't think I would do film again....Only like the convenience & "instant gratification" (according to "V" virus source) of digital.:)

Too much "instant" things are not good for health... instant coffee, instant noodles, instant-pain-relief... as an oral doctor, I'm sure you know better.

On the other hand... things that takes time to brew benefits... like Ginseng, Japanese tea, bak-kut-tea, braised abalone, lotus-root soup ("lian-Ou-Tang")... just to name a few...

In this age, we need to slow down a little to appreciate the finer things in life... Don't you agree, Doc?

OK.. for "X" virus.. it's even more rare than the "L" virus. Even in Jit-pun, Fuji TX1 & TX2 trades much higher than on eBay. But the condition there are much better than you can get anywhere else. So if you want to get the "X" virus, better be fast. But the good news is... with about the price of 1 x "Naughty-Lux" + 1 x "Summi-LUST" you can get the "X" strain ver 1 & 2 viruses PLUS the 30mm, 45mm & 90mm cells in minty condition.

Better get it quick... for sure in 1 year time, you can release them again to the environment with 1.5x the value you bought today. Price 1 year ago was only going for USD1.5k for ver 1 with the 45mm cell in minty condition. Now, it's more than USD2K for a user condition.

Wow liao, {yi du kon du}! as prescribed by a "Source"
Now, I remember how I got infected.
Had a resident "C'' (canon) virus which stayed latent for many many years. Then as with some virus, which stays latent & resurfaces every now and then (good example is "cold sore" virus), my "C" virus resurfaced in Feb 2007. I was rather new & just lurking in CS (PoisonLand):bigeyes:when "V" virus struck after seeing eg of VC 125mmMacro posts by Wee. Innoculated myself with VC125macro variant of "C" virus from Wee. Quickly searched & found BigTime "V" virus Source(aka Chiif). Met up with "V" virus Source & was subtlely introduced to "E" (Epson) virus. By pure coincidence, one week after meeting with "V" virus source, "E" virus appear on PoisonLand B&S thread-kenna innoculated with RD1s strain of "E" virus liao!. Fortunately or unfortunately, RD1s strain came with an attached "L" virus protein, BK protein ("Bokeh King"). "C" & "E" viruses stopped but not "L"!!!. See! got New Poison, so old Poison became ineffective.(Source's Wisdom)
There is no turning back! "L" virus is very potent & virulent! Even from a simple protein (mind u; not even a full virus!), it managed to make use of the body DNA & RNA to replicate itself & spread quickly through out the body.
From a localised infection it quickly spread & became systemic. The body immune system became severely crippled that it even allows variant strains of "L" viruses such as VarHexL39, VarCanL39, VarNikL39, VarRok, VarPenL39, VarRolL39, VarZuiL39 & VarKino to enter body & colonise.
There is NO cure, not even with lack of Vitamin M (hi, benny-no use!) with so many virus strains lurking in the body.
Only a "Source" knows best: to use traditional Chinese medicine Way-{yi du kon du} So he is suggesting new "du"/poison- the "X" virus now.
It dangerous, too dangerous! especially with the existence of "X" virus master & his humble disciple. :o
Quickly flee...flee from PoisonLand (aka CS...)

I am really a SICK man now!
I didn't even remember the VarVC viruses-VarVC15Heliar, VarVC40Nokton & VarVC50Nokton. Those entered almost immediatedly after innoculation with RD1s variant of "E"+ BK protein! (in 2 days!!!)
The "Source" is strong, he sucks me right back after exposing me to "E" virus and make me forget that his viruses are in my body even now! I had shed VarVC50Nokton & was infected with VarVC28Ultron for a short while. Now 2 new strains exist in me-VarVC50HeliarBlack & VarVC50HeliarSilver+ the original VarVC15Heliar & VarVC40Nokton:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Oh my...... I didn't realise I was this sick!!!!! I really think I should avoid seeing the doc. Seems like it gets worse everytime!

Cheers,

So sorry for OT posts:embrass:

Don't worry... as long as I am around... I will provide antidote for the poison. :)
