Which lenses for A7?

Thanks for the comparison, limwl27. This is the reason why I added a 35mm as a compact carry-around.

But I am still hesitant to add the SEL1635Z to my collection as I don't see myself shooting wide most of the time.

I heard that for RF lens, those Nikon mount will perform better than those M mount. They will generaly produce less colour cast and fall-outs. Eyeing the VC 20mm/f3.5... Any experience with that?

Nope, the RF lenses I tried are mainly Voigtlanders and Jupiter 3. Watch out for corner issues (softness, colour cast, smearing) especially on the wide ones. General consensus is that 35mm above should be ok.

the Voigtlander 1.8/21 is a fantastic lens. i have it and it's corner to corner sharpness with very minimal distortion. the only drawback is the magenta cast on the edges. no big deal since some post processing removes it easily

First, find out what is important to you (bokeh, versatility, tele) and what you shoot more (events, street, cityscape). Some compromises I can see are:

1) Get the kit 28-70mm rather than 24-70mm which is about 1/3 the price. Do you need the 24-27mm extra width? Some reviews say that the wide and tele end of the 24-70mm is not that good. I kinda agree but it's really not as bad as they put it. But for the price and Zeiss tag, it should be better IMHO

2) Get the EA4 adapter and Minolta 70-210mm f4 rather than 70-200mm f4 G if you don't use it often. The EA4 is about $299 (PWP) and 70-210mm about $180ish. The best price I get for FE lens is $16xx. Downside is that weight of the combination is about 100g more than the FE lens, without OSS and focusing is slower. With IBIS in the future (A7SII and A9 maybe), the OSS gap should not be that big.

I'm actually using an RX-10 at the moment; got it because I "want it all" & didn't like the idea of swapping lenses and buying into a lens ecosystem. The compactness & 24-200mm is really brilliant. However, the IQ doesn't do it for me anymore sadly.

1) I read about those too. For me, the slightly faster & more importantly, constant aperture is the reason why I'm not even considering the kit lens.

2) Wow, the difference is really quite huge. I think the adapter might not be worth since I do not have an existing lens collection; was thinking going all-out FE (but yeah, the cost damn it). The reviews for the FE 70-200mm seems good.

If only the FE 24-70mm had equally good IQ & reviews.

EDIT: Selling my RX-10 to fund the A7 lenses will only get me an FE 55mm or FE 24-70mm. T_T

Maybe I should keep the RX-10 as a second camera in case I do not have time to switch lenses? But the IQ...

If you dont want to adapt Amount or other mount lenses, the options for you is very limited. Basically there are only 6 native lenses for FE and only 2 (2870 and 2470) of them can replace each other. Just buy what you need.

BTW for video, I think if you are serious, a small steadicam or gimbal is much more useful than OSS.

Works ok for me - especially if you have fast lenses (ie f2.8).
Tried quite a few A-mounts - Sony, Konica-Minolta and even legacy Minolta AF lenses from the 80s. All worked fine and can get "Minolta colours".
EA-4 adapter really gives you more flexibility given the range of legacy lenses available.

Without OSS 24-105 range would be ideal.
My fav lenses are the MAF 24-85mm and KM 28-75mm f2.8.
