Which lenses best for portrait?

Price for the lens is not an overkill..but price for the photographer is an overkill, esp we, who dont need these kind of expensive lenses yet.

Correct, but for myself, it IS an overkill. Even if i've the money, i won't buy it.

You have to understand that some ppl operate in a difference system. Neither metric nor imperial units. :bsmilie: Plus they sprout nonsense too :bsmilie:

Anyway, that's not impt. I use my sigma 30mm f1.4 for portraiture lar. Coz i got pretty limited space to use in AD weddings.
Great at f1.4 totally wide open, stopping to f2 it will just be slightly sharper (and optimal). Pretty good bokeh too.

An f-stop is calculated in 1.4x (don't ask me why). Just for your record only.

What i really learnt is that what we (mostly photographers) see as beautiful may not be what others see (say ordinary people). For eg, my experience with wedding couples is that a small percentage will not like extreme bokeh shots. For eg, my wife does not like it, too "giddy".

Too bad the latest Carl Zeiss 50/1.4 is not AF for Canon/Nikon. Darn it, if its AF i'd really make a dash for that. But for those who don't mind no AF, that'd really be the lens to go for (and its relatively cheap).

I'd rather go for Leica lens on my EOS but their lens are way too expensive.

Speaking of photography and bokeh, i've done a couple of model shoots who are introduced by my fren and when i showed him my pics, the first thing he said is 'y yr pics background all blur one? Everything should be clear mah.' When i heard this, i told him that he really knows absolutely nothing about portraiture.
