Geno never mine. Just got myself a Tokina AT-X 270 AF PRO II AF 28-70mm F2.6-2.8. Got it for SG770 with UV 77mm Hoya filter. I don't know why I can't get the apeture to go to F2.6. Do I nee to rechip the lens?
why didn't u get the tamron version of 28-75 f2.8??

best is to get the KM version than the tamron one, less troublesome if it got problems later.

Tried it at my friend's shop with a Dynax 5D. The focus time is near perfect. The build is solid. Looks likes a Nikon lens. My only gripe is why I can't get the aperture to open to F2.6.

To be honest, they should just mark it as f2.8... f2.6 and f2.8 is not even 1/3 stop.

If you camera can't set 1/3 stop in between, you can't find the f2.6

Don't worry about it... Go out and shoot.

I have the older version, the "PRO", similarly can't set to 2.6 although it's mark as 2.6-2.8. Never worry about it cause 2.6 to 2.8, like others have said is less than 1/3 f-stop, will not differ much.

If you are have bought the lens because of the 2.6 and paid a premium because of it, I think it's best you check with the seller.

Tokina is founded by a group of Nikon engineers, hence the similar look and feel to Nikon lens. ;)

Hi just talked to Cathay photo service center they think its with the camera. I called Konica Minolta Service center the camera (Dynax 5D) is only able to do 1/2 stops. However the lens has great feel to it. Takes some time to get use to the focus clutch.

Here are some picture of the lens.

Notice when I take picture using the pop up flash (Dynax 5D with Tokina 28-70mm F2.6-2.8) I have to use the flash compensation -1.3. If not pictures look very bright. Any idea why?

did you use spot/centre metering? If you use that and center on really black colour lens, sure the flash will compensate like hell  and thus over expose.

Here are pic of it mounted on my Dyanx 5D

Looks a little blur... OOF... were u using f/2.8? Looks like the sensor picked up the wrong thing to focus on.

Notice that my Tokina AT-X270AF PRO II has some problems. When using it I notice the picture tend to be overexposed and when using flash the power of the flash would be too high on my Dynax 5D. In P mode I can fix this by setting exposure compensation at -0.6EV and flash compensation at -1.3EV. I guess I'll have to talk to the people at Cathay Photo about this problem as the lens is still under warranty.

Did u compare with the kit lens? Is the kit lens ok without and with flash?

The lens kit was OK. I took pictures on both lens and found the original lens was OK.

there's nothing wrong with the lens, just yr metering is wrong....

Interesting, there is a f2.6-2.8 tokina lens in ebay and it looks different from your lens..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7592997026&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

your lens looks more like hart's f2.8 lens..

How many version of this f2.8 lens are in the market and are they having the same optic performance?

Geno I tested the lens with a 18-70mm lens that came with the kit and the image looks ok. While the ones using the tokina lens came out over expose. Both were using the same metering center weighted.

Looks like at least 6 different versions....hence the confusion and mixup over the quality of each of the versions. Some say the older versions (ATX-PRO 28-70 f2.6~2.8) are better some say the version before the current latest version is better, which is the ATX-PRO 28-80 f2.8. :dunno:

See here for the different versions of the same lens...http://khoking.photomalaysia.com/myphotography/myaddon/tokina27080/tokina.htm
