Probably yes. It's possibly one of the most popular prime lenses (in terms of purchasing) so they'd have plenty..

The tamron 17-50 compared to canon 17-85is usm ? (same money)

I prefer the Tamron with its f2.8..... to Canon's with its f4 (but it does have IS) :bsmilie:

Firstly it's not even a f/4 constant lens; it goes from f/4 to f/5.6.

Secondly, IS will not help you stop motion where f/2.8 will, so it's really no horse run; the 17-50 is really the better choice among the two, unless you tell me that EVERYTHING you shoot is totally not moving.

Just saw the TAMRON 28-300mm XR Di VC which looks an all around lens, what about this one for first lens instead of the tamron 17-50 we were talking before?
Sure later I have to buy a wide angle lens.
Image quality is the same for both?(28-300 and 17-50)
It will be used for travel, landscapes, (moving) kids, generally amateur use...
Sorry for bothering you so much but my town don't have canon 450d and lenses for testing them, thanks. :)

i got myself a kiss x2 from japan, my first dslr.

got a noob question, how do i ensure everything in focus when taking a person with landscape. i realise the focus will always be sharp on the person but not the landscape.

Use a higher f-stop.

Since I use Tv mode more than Av mode..... I'll leave it to the rest to tell you how much 'f' you need....

So you think am I covered with these two lenses for my first dslr or is something better for the same money?

28mm isn't awfully wide. As mentioned before, superzooms will not give you the same quality as a purpose-specific lens.

Seems you are bent on getting a super zoom either way...so there's only so much any of us can say to you...

Generally, you'd want a lens of shorter focal length, and a f/stop setting of about f/8 or f/11.

Do note that jacking up the aperture to f/16 and beyond for a crop body is not advised due to the problems of diffraction.

Also, since you want lenses that give you a long range, why not consider the 18-55mm IS with the 55-250 IS? Decent price overall and both lenses are very compact. You gain IS which is a very expensive function in Canon's lenses plus they are of a higher quality and built even then any of Sigmas' or Tamrons' offerings in the superzoon arena.

Of course if you're lazy, you can get one of what they have and wield it on your DSLR. I'll then recommend you get a D40/D60 and the 18-200 VR. That would be the best compromise overall IMO.
