Hi acer has 1 model which is small and light. You may want to check on that one.

yeah, i saw it during the IT show. So does Samsung.

Looking for these feather weight and mini notebook so that they can be served as backup to my memory cards when travelling.

T43? Mine's also the last batch i think

Yes the t43 :bsmilie: only bad thing about it is the lousy 1024x768 screen. But for the NUS price its a good deal..

actually memory cards are damn expensive if u look at the $ per storage space.
Harddisk is the cheapest.

Of course the notebook is not solely for that backup purpose. Want a small notebook so that I can lag it around everywhere. Especially when with the upcoming islandwide wireless boardband connection.

Hi to all

My toshiba laptop which was about 4 yrs n 10 mths old pass away 1 week ago. Now I am eye for new laptop and there are 3 choices

IBM thinkpad x60http://www-604.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=4611686018425100651&storeId=10000702&langId=702&categoryId=2060574&dualCurrId=1000097&catalogId=-702

Asus w5f http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1011&l1=5&l2=75&l3=0

Acer travelmate 3010 http://www.acer.com.sg/products/travelmate3010/psp_travelmate3010.asp

can give me some opinion of these 3 laptop, anyone of the brand laptop, story about these brands laptop or experience using those brands, thank for sharing your info.
MacBookPro, install Boot Camp and done deal.

I had a very bad experience with toshiba laptop. I bought my toshiba laptop about 5 yrs ago. The laptop crash very frequently with the window me which provided by toshiba, where ibm dont crash at all. Then I decided to change to window XP when my laptop was 2 yr old and the problem solved as toshiba dont fit with window me. The keybroad spoilted about 6 mths after i bought, casing were crack easily. When the laptop was 2.5 yr old the harddisk die off and I got to wait more than 1 mth for replacement. Then the change harddisk had bad sector when the laptop was 4 yr old. The service of toshiba was bad when I send in for service. If you want to buy laptop, don't think of toshiba. That time I have no experience in buying laptop and I think that buying a laptop is same as buying DIY computer but I was wrong. Through my own experience with toshiba I learned that got to ask around before buying a laptop.

Oh btw, it came out in the Chinese newspapers (dunno if Straits Times, TNP or any English papers had it), that MacBook Pro can experience overheating problems...

From personal experiences, the lappy DOES heat up to an unbearable temperature after some time... to the extent of being too hot for use on the lap...

But otherwise, i have nothing but compliments so far (after 3 days)...

Without pricing there's no way to tell which is better. Other than brand loyalty.

Depending on the type of user you are, you should try to go for dedicated graphics cards. Also there's a energy drain problem associated with using the duos with USB peripherals. About 85% faster. Don't know if that's solved yet.

Sony is actually on the higher price range, you're sorta paying for its brand.. Acer? my bet aint on it cuz think quality wise i'll go for others.. haha mm oh ya the power problem is with current CORE DUO centrinos.. it drains yr power super fast thks to WINXP SP2.. cuz windows keep scan yr usb2.0 so uses power drastically.. microsoft has a fix on their website.. giving instructions.. lol but till then.. u have to live with it.. can plug out yr usb2.0 devices after use lor.. haha

personally, i'll definitely go for dedicated graphics if wan play game otherwise if i do work e.g design i'll take a mac anytime... hahahaha :)

hope this tip helps

Yes! This is wat I've noticed too when I tried the new MacBook at the apple shop.
It can almost burn your hand!

lol guess is true that toshiba harddisk sucks... I got my compaq lappy which comes with toshiba harddisk, and it die in less than 1/2 yr... got them to replace a new 1 (hitachi/IBM). heard many complaint about toshiba harddisk crashing as well, so i don recommand it to any one

erm btw y HP is under budget? HP/compaq lappy looks rather expensive to me, just that most of the time their model doesn't have very good spec, but the price seems quite steep:sweat:

yup! tat's how hot it can get..

Hi

Do anyone bought IBM Thinkpad x60 from funan or simlim sq. The spec mention on IBM sg website is different from the shop there. The shop at funan n simlim sq dont come with finger print scan. do u all think is ok to buy x60 from the shops there. I need advise.

You can consider Asus. I am using one right now after my wife bought hers. So far so good. The specs are good considering the price. Good value for $$. A big plus is that the service center (touch wood) is in town. No need to bring it to some ulu place to service it.

I agree with your post on Toshiba laptop. My brother's Toshiba laptop crashed 3 times even after Toshiba changed the harddisk 3 times. How is this possible for new harddisks?

To code and to other asus notebook user

I would like to know which model u bought. For Asus I would like to buy w5f, any comment on w5f.

i bought a A3A.

I have the same acer one
its very portable and good for travelling around with, carry around like jus a book.
with an added 1GB ram, its very responsive and im comfortable with the speed.
It comes with a 3 cell and 6 cell battery, great in terms of options for travelling ard. ( about 3-4hrs on the 6 cell alone)
