Since we are on the subject of the 70-300mm, can I OT a bit. Is this lens paired with a 7D enough to shoot the aerial display at the Singapore Airshow? I'm not sure how far the aircraft are away from the viewing gallery. For the RSAF Open House aerial display, it's good enough cos the spectator stands are reasonably near.

You should trade it in before Canon releases the Mark II. Canon has just registered a new patent for a 100-400.

Problem is range leh... I find the max range of 400mm very useful... just the weight and size of the lens that is breaking my back... Isn't as young and strong as I'm used to be...

For airshow... I would said the longer the better... more flexibility... was happy with how my 100-400mm works during the last airshow... ;)

Your requirements are tough. The best solution would be the announced 200-400 f4L w/1.4 but it would break your back/bank further.

If that China young man is willing to trade his kdney for a iPad 2... I would much rather trade mine for the 200-400mm... :bsmilie:

But sadly... lenses like these are way beyond the means for most of us... much like that EF 200mm f2 L displayed outside Cathay's door.... I something purposely walk past Cathay just to Stare and Drool at this lens

We should spend within our means especially since this a hobby for many of us and not go hankering after some awesome L lens. ;p

LOL...times are bad now.

Just joking. Will increase Ang Pow for inflation. Times are still good for now.

Totally agree... last I read... that fellow regarded. But too late already... sad sad sad.

Well... I know I can't afford one of those super Telephoto lens... but doesn't mean I won't keep dreaming about one... much like some japanese car owner I know, pretending they are inside a Ferrari or F1, the way they drive  :bsmilie:

I won't keep dreaming about one... :bsmilie:

Actually the secret is that if you continue to dream about it, the dream will automatically come true one day :). So dream big.

Hahaha... I prefer to ''Work Hard'' to make it come true one day... dreaming is not for me... hahaha

When I say dream I mean a process of visualization and picturization. If you can mentally see it, the universe will make it happen. That is The Secret.

Hahaha... too new age for me...

Canon EF 24-70 2.8L USM and EF 70-200 2.8L IS II USM is the best lenses i ever seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! I love them a lot!!

What i do to fund those good expensive lens are.. to compromise my holidays or any other purchases such as branded stuff/gadget or what not.
for example. If wanted to go Korea/Japan.. ill go Taiwan.. If i want to go Taiwan.. ill probably go Thailand. Somehow it worked for me.. Finally once i got the things i want i can go the place i want. LOL.. So..for those want to go Europe for eg.. Why not try planning on a holiday in Asia..Saves you probably a or a few grands..There you can now use that to get something else.

Of cos the best way is to work harder and earn more..but sometimes its just not possible. Thats life.. lol.

This reminds me of Yoda when he was training the young Luke Skywalker and asking him to levitate his X-Wing fighter which was submerged in the swamp :p

Fear is the path to the dark side.

--YODA, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

When you look at the dark side, careful you must be ... for the dark side looks back.

--YODA, Dark Rendezvous

From the dark path, no returning there is. Forever, the direction of your life it dominates.

We just need to keep to the light and focus on the L lens.

Just a note to TS, the 24-105, 28-300, 70-300 and 100-400 all have IS.

Thanks. As there isn't a non-IS version I did not bother indicate IS or non-IS for these lenses.

Interesting to note that while the 70-200 2.8 IS has garnered the most votes, none of its 70-200 brothers came close. On the other hand, the 24-105 IS has received quite a good number of votes and is just behind the 24-70 2.8. Does that indicate photographers' preference for IS lenses?

Despite their higher costs, IS lenses are still very popular. Does it mean that photographers are also willing to pay for IS?
