Still trying to come to terms with the severe geometric distortions though, especially when shifted to max.

But do u really need IS for this lens? Unless u shoot videos with it.

Don't think it matters at the expected price, they should throw in everything they have. Otherwise you could also ask if you really need AF in Canon's premium lenses.

IS adds weight though.

And I doubt IS is a generic technology that can be implemented onto any lens - they probably need to develop specific algorithms for each lens to effectively cater for the unique characteristics of each lens. That additional cost may be more than what consumers are willing to pay for.

The cheap consumer entry level 18-55 has IS while ultra-expensive pro-level 24-70 I & II do not. We are completely at the mercy of Canon on what it decides to bless us with. It is not a matter of cost.

It cannot be implemented onto any lens. There is a reason we haven't seen it in f/1.4 primes, either they would need to stop it down or it would be much bigger/heavier. :) Anyway, if they can't do it they should at least return to a more reasonable pricing. Recently newer lenses are excessive.

Not sure if anyone else find this funny...

Canon name is evolve from the name, Kwanon... the name for Goddness of Mercy, Kwan Yin as we Chinese called it....

I'm a Christian and I won't be changing any time soon. I take photos with my Canon to record God's great and beautiful creation which He provided to us for free. :)

With all due respect Halfmoon, I think you may have missed the point... one of the posters above had determined that the original name of Canon was Kwanon which means in ancient Japanese folklore, Godess of Mercy. An drew had light-heartedly mentioned that all his Christians friends may leave the brand as a result. I responded jokingly as well and said that I am a Christian and I wasn't planning to change any time soon. So it really had nothing to do with fanboys or worshippers of brands.

I guess that the weakness of text based communication... emotions are often misinterpreted. :)

in conclusion - problem of text based communication :bsmilie:

Recently acquired 50L, 85L, 100L. One lens that always stay on my 5D is the 85L.

Extremely sharp with super creamy bokeh. No micro AF adjustment needed as it is perfectly focused at close or far focused. It is a heavy lens, but really shocked with every shots taken. This one has the 3D pop that I used to get from my 50lux and M9P combination.

This is the best Canon prime to me. So good that it is always on my cam, even though it is a 1kg lens.

I heard that the 85L was a tricky lens to use. It requires some time to get used to before good photographs are possible. Did you experience this?
