That "one" lens you must have for FX

but fx for the time being still heavy (compared to my D50 at least) ... even the body without mount any lens is heavy, never mind a 20mm

Heavy = More stable.

That's what I feel.

If it has to be a Nikon lens (that i own), I think it will have to be my 35mm f/1.4 Ai for me (AiS too expensive...)

They should really update that f/2 lens in my opinion.

Yup brom agreed. And also the AFD 85mmf 1.4D.. after a long 13 yrs..still no news of a AFS version.

That'd be 85mm f1.4. A sweet sweet lens IMO.

it's not healthy to lust for non living things

i suggest u buy the 85mm f1.4

at worst, u can always sell it away at a loss

Year end bonus coming.. waiting patiently..

Hmm 'Nikon' lens can't do without... else would vote for Tamron 28-75mm. Fraction of 24-70mm price but producing decent enough image. Cannot afford 24-70 at the moment.

Nikon lens i cannot do without are my old Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 afs and 50mm f1.4. 50mm great for night & Portrait shot. 80-200mm is good for far subject which you want to make it look near ,and nice bokeh for portrait shots.

I will usually bring these lens with me whenever i travel, though heavy but it's worth. I have also Invested good camera bag and camera strap to 'reduce' their weight. (FYI 80-200afs + D700 is about 3kg).

Now... if only they come out with 135mm DC VRII... then that will be something I won't leave home without...

Just one lens?

35mm f2D for sure! Perfect on a D700 (if you discount the Zeiss offering since it's not a nikkor...)

Definitely the 17-35 on FX.. Or maybe a 14-24. You absolutely cannot live without owning a Nikon wide-angle.

Haa..Piaseh, "Nikon" Lens only.. Aint biased abt 3rt party lens though ;p

FYI my D700+MBD10+70-200VR1+Tripod collar+Markins plate on collar = 3.7KG.

Wow, Thks for ur input, despite ur a canon user.. Couldn't agree better on ur above statement, one of the key reason ppl jump into FX is we want to go "WIDER"! :)

Yup...Seems a fair fight for primes between this and the 50f1.4D for a lighter setup.. :)

Noticed that out of the primes, not many mentioned the 50mm 1.4G...

Hahaha... does it really pale in comparison to that of the 50mm 1.4D? That lack of an aperture ring is that much of an impact?

I currently only have 1 len & that's the 50mm 1.4D for my D700. I am intending to get a mid zoom len.

However, my friend asked me to get a 85mm 1.4D as he mentioned that prime len is sharper & in general, the PQ look better.

I noticed it's quite inconvenient using the 50mm 1.4D ( Fix focal length ).

I read that Nikon best mid zoom len is the 24 to 70 mm 2.8. But it's ex, is there any alternative?

Thanks.

Dude, the G ver AF slower than the D and there are optically on par.
Put that aside, shd u nt crave for that 9 blade Diaphragm that gives u better oof areas on the G. Many will still fall back on the D for a fraction of the price of the G. :)
