Can't be one lens alone bro.. If forced to, my choice would be the same as yours..AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED ;)

I know the choice is hard to make, but there's bound to be one lens ppl wun give up for FX.
As expected..AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED walkover.. ;) Its a white elephant but ppl lov'in it~!

300mm f2.0 AIS or 800mm f5.6 AIS or 17~35mm f2.8 AFS

Wah, multiple choices, lol... Bro, if say die die u have to choose one~?! ;)

For jobs, it has to be 14-24mm f/2.8 and PC-E 24mm f/3.5. Don't make me choose, they do different things.

For my own stuff, the 24-70mm f/2.8.

Yup Kit, ur workhorse lens help u "tan jiat" i understand.. :)

So it should be 24-70mm f2.8 for u yah..(think mus emphasize for personal use..hee..)

i too just very recently got my 24-70. it fantastic, i'm beginning to wonder why it took me so long to get one in the first place.
paired up with the D700 it's really an awesome combination.

so obvious 24-70mm pwned all other lenses.

can i ask what so good ? why can't you use 50mm and zoom with one step forward/back?

it seem to me you are paying sgd 2000 extra so you can use finger instead of legs to zoom?

u can tell me more about using finger if you want

well u would put your index and thumb on the rubber. grip it gently and twist it round the barrel for the image to expand or contract as desired

I go for 17-35 f2.8 as well, as 75% of my shots are taken with this lens.

i would say this 17-35mm too, i hav 24-70mm but i realized that because is a mid range lens,

the 17-35 can do the same as 24-70mm, just a few steps forward.... but still this is up to

individual shooting style.... Kenrockwell have also have the same point of view...

With the 24-70mm, you get the flexibility of a zoom range which is useful when you cover events and are unable to walk 1 step forward or back due to cramped/crowded situations. You might lose the shot in trying to do so in a fast paced shoot. You are also able to select wide angle or tele to change and get the perspective you want, with respect to your main subject. You can get 3rd party equivalents, that is fine, but for those who want the best quality even when wide open, the nikon 24-70mm F2.8 is the one to beat.

i cant seem to do the same on a borrowed 50mm; by twisting it around with fingers,

it ongly goes from blur-to-clear or clear-to-blur or blur-to-blur

I was referring to the 24-70mm.

50mm cannot zoom because it is prime lens. The rubber that you are fingering is the manual focus.

The AFS 17-35mm f2.8.

Although it was launched together with the D1 (a DX cam), this lens really shines on the 35mm format. It works great on the F100 and is more than capable on FX bar the D3X.

But really, I wouldn't want to restrict myself to just one.

Agreed, it will be hard to juz choose one..
Different lens are best used for different situations.

24-70mm f2.8 is one of the best jack of all trade for FX
However, the eye grabbing shots will usually from the primes
