But you can't expect with a sweeping statement like

sharpness wise, 17-35 def beats 17-55. i have both, but sold the 17-55 later on.

and expect those who own either to move on, right?

At least give a qualifying reason... how much did you blow up to see the difference in sharpness? if you have to blow it up really big to see the difference.. then for my money I would go for the more versatile lens.

I din realise the 17-35 is only slightly pricier by USD100. I thought it's nearly SGD3k while the 17-55 is about SGD2k.

From the MTF curves, the 17-55 is the sharper lens for DX.

I wouldnt say its the best...but the 10.5mm DX fisheye is a remarkably sharp 2.8 lens. Absolutely love my copy. I love the 50 f1.4 and the 60 f2.8 macro as well. I think they are worth the value.

I think best lens depends on what type of pics each individual would like to take.

For me, the creamy brokeh for portraiture is my preference and i feel that the lens for it is the 85 f1.4 cause the focal length is just nice.

Most overrated? 18-200 VR.. cause the demand is so high for this lens but the picture quality is not that great. People just want the lens for convenience sake more.

Another lens that just came to mind that is underrated is the Nikon 28-105. Relatively cheap and good. Respectable macro capability (but of course cannot fight 105VR la). :sweat:

Used to be the body cap for me also.. But ever since i got the 18-200VR, it has replaced the body cap for my D70s.

Overated: AF-D 12-24 (value for money)

BTW, I'm also thinking of upgrading 18-70DX kit lens to 18-200 VR but heard contradicting verdicts about it. Some like it for the convenience and the quality is OK but some really dislike it for the quality worse than 70-80DX because the range of 18-200 is so long and that affects the quality. Anyone has a more comparison about these two?

tokina 12-24 f4 or the sigma 10-20... both at about S$800+ here, so you should be able to get them at about $600-$800 there. :thumbsup:

Most overrated? 70-200VR - esp on this subforum.

Best Nikkor? Doesn't exist. Every lens has it's pros and cons. It all depends on what the situation calls for.

well, for me, i feel that the 70-200mm VR has justified my spending so much $ on it....
enjoyed the VR cause i can shoot at 200mm and not use a tripod....
understand that there are people who can handhold at 300mm or more and get sharp pics....

but for me, 200mm already got problem... so the 70-200mm vr is considered the best nikkor...

Best? Don't know. Value for money would be my 24mm on my SLR. 95% on my DSLR would be 17-55mm, but :think: not really value for money.
