As above....
if possible, reasons why?

always hear pple say....
SCV is faster locally n slower with oversea sites
and ADSL is the opposite...
slower locally n faster with oversea sites?

SCV pros:
- no need dial up (not a big prob)
- unlimited
- stable (for me at least...)

ADSL pros:
- dun share bandwidth
- use telephone line (can change location easier...)

anything else to add?

Magix rules. ;)

So far i've had very little problems with it and speed is always at its best. Too bad they have stopped accepting subscriptions for the 512k plan.

so far i tink it depends....see what u use the connection for. some people download things...some people send more things..usually for those who download alot of stuff...cable or magix recommanded...hee...

i've used scv in the past. then changed to singnet adsl 512 now.

scv upload 128
download unlimited (share with others in ur vincinity)

singnet upload 256
download constant 512

i've tried both and i truly enjoy my real broadband now. scv upload is crap...and the download is erratic. of course, it depends on where u stay as well. cos if u stay..like for example..those big town like bedok/tampines? the chances of ppl sharing the bandwidth is bigger.

No doubt that I prefer Singtel Magix... SPEED!!

But its too expensive for me ... and I'd rather spend the money elsewhere ;)

So I'm stuck with Starhub Maxonline.

so ur singtel adsl 512k...is good ? hehe...i havent switch to any of the broadband...but i thought it might be worth while to give a try too..

PacNet :thumbsd:

I've submitted my termination... changing to Singnet.

Thanks all for replying...
so summary is SCV is irratic, MAgix is EX, Pacific is
that leaves Singnet wan...

Pokka ah, May I know how much is your Singnet ADSL?
Think they have very tempting promotions...

The difference between SCV and Singnet ADSL, is it worth
the change? Singnet isn't unlimited connection rite?

20kB as in 20 Kilobytes

What Pokka is refering to is 128KiloBITS which is equivalent to 128/8 (since 8 bits make 1 byte) which therefore gives: 16KB/s

Don't let them fool you with all those bits and bytes... hee hee :p

BTW, the last time I used SCV, about a year back, downloads speeds can reach up to 200+kiloBYTES per second!

in my office the 512 singnet, shared with 2 bosses, but even they're not in the office and not use it, it is much much slower than my scv at home.

I can download for example files from microsoft using scv 190+ to 200+ KB/sec, using singnet below 100 KB/sec, sometimes around 30!

... think different pple have different opinions.... lol...
all very contradicting... My SCV at home is pretty reliable... but tends to be rather slow during weekends... sometimes the connection drops dead (but now very seldom...)

I had a friend using Magix... and he faced lots of problems with the connections and stuffs...

I have been with Magix (512k plan)for the last 3 years. Though the price is ex, the speed performance has been pretty constant.

ermm... can someone tell me the diff btw Singnet ADSL and Singtel ADSL offerings.... why are they competing against each other? Not the same parent coy meh??
which is better?? :dunno:

previously my campany was using 512 ADSL. I am using cable at home.

cable vs adsl : cable wins.

I always download patch from microsoft. When using cable, the files already downloaded before i even can blink.

When using 512 ADSL to download....well.........

Been with Magix for 1 year and only used it for 10 months. The reason? Waited 2 good months for a faulty modem to be serviced by them, had to continue paying them during the no-internet period due to contract, and they had the cheek to tell me to use a dial-up modem. I told them I do not have a dial-up modem, and I wouldn't use it even if I had because dial-up accesss requires additional charges. Even e-mailed their CEO, got a reply from the "CEO" saying he will get an engineer to call me. But still, wait wait wait, no calls, no email, nothing. In the end, went directly down to their servicing sub-contractor instead, pester them until they repair my modem and finally got my modem back.

Moved to SCV since then and has been a happy cable user for 2-3 years.

Not sure why , but i could always get the full 15kb/s upload and 190kb/s download speed whenever i tried. (provided the sender or site can substain the speed , if not still do-able by saturating up to 190kb/s.)

I used magix ATM around 2 years + back , latency was good , download/upload was fast. However , seem that everytime in the morning or very late at night, the service goes down for me. Also the service wasn't exactly cheap

For SNBB ,in fact I don't find the latency alot better than Maxonline , tested with 512K.

currently sharing the cable connection with 4 people , even when 2 are surfing , the 3rd guy playing CS through the wireless network is still getting 20+ to 30+ ping in an internet game. ;)

p/s: just a side note , to those getting SNBB , try not to get the Aztech 500U modem , i got alot problems trying to setup it up.:thumbsd:

What's wrong with PacNet? :dunno:

I went for the cheapest available then - Singnet 256K. It has served me well and saved quite a bit of money for my family. Previously, we could spend ~$50++ just on telephone bills for net surfing and we have to maintain a separate line. With the 256K, the speed was increased ~5 times and we could terminate one line :)
