what to look out for a tripod? do you guys normally pick lighter ones or heavier ones?

weight is very important to me. cos i dun want my tripod to sit at home doing nothing. So i go for as light as possible but of cos it must be stable.

not really, the magic chant goes like this:

light and stable tripod not cheap
cheap and stable tripod not light
light and cheap tripod not stable :bsmilie:

Both my tripod and monopod are from Velbon. The tripod was purchase during a roadshow 2 years ago, cheap but heavy due to it's magnesium joints. The mono was much lighter but the ballhead was a bit small to support the weight of my equipments (I blame myself for not able to afford a more expensive one with bigger ballhead) :sweatsm:.

:bsmilie: This really reminds me of the old saying of Cheap, Fast, Good.

Good and Fast = Not Cheap
Cheap and Good = Not Fast
Fast and Cheap = Not Good

i thought heavier more stable:think:

to some extend... but later on i discovered(i mean i can afford la) carbon fibre tripods. :bsmilie:

before then was hulking around a 055ProB manfrotto with a big heavy ball-head. very sturdy n strong but it made me very very tired esp. during long fotography treks!

that's the reason why light and stable tripods is good and important. else your tripod will end up at home collecting dust haha

 dunno leh, i bot it so long ago...

it was supposed to be a good copy of gitzo and thus, everyone thought it is china's.

but u can't argue with the cheap price n the good build quality. ;p

i lost touch with their latest products... not that i need them.

so, i would think that a tripod is essential for most fotographers and u can't scrimp and save on essential fotographic tools.

thus, in an ideal world, the fotographer should go out and buy the best tripod he/she can afford. normally, this is the type of purchases that once you spent on a good tripod, chances are you do not need to upgrade/change anymore unless you outgrow what the tripod can offer you la.

just my 2cents.
